This item is only good for low fades or if you have a massive head. The reason being that it only fits tightly around the middle/lower part of the head. If you try to do a high fade the band fits way too loosely and it will move around. It's very limiting in how high I can place the fade. At this price they should provide a second, tighter band for high fades.

I've been giving myself haircuts for 20 years. I served 8 years in the Marine Corps, and I gave myself razor-fade military regulation haircuts every week.... free handed. This fade guide is a great idea. It does give you that controlled line that is very balanced on both sides of your head, which I was unable to do while eyeballing it. However, it does take a lot longer for a complete haircut (30 min for me) because you have to fade each line into the next thicker one. When I was eyeballing it free handed, I would use a tapered guard and buzz a lot more hair off at once; the result was uneven fades and an uneven neck line. I've found a compromise... I'll use the fade guide for the razor cut defining my neck line. Then ill move it a few inches up higher and use it a second time with my tapered guard to blend my longer hair (#5 guard) down to no guard fade zone, and then ditch the fade guard and do everything else & in-between free handed. I'm grateful for this product and have recommended it to everyone else I know who cuts their own hair.

Great little Gadget wish I had a long time ago it's awesome I've been cutting my own hair for like 10 years or more and this thing works great the fade is awesome you got to get used to it but once you figure it out it's pretty awesome

Item is good and overall works. However I find you still need to hold it in place when cutting up to is as to not bump it higher each time and ruin the fade. Overall not bad but could be a bit better if it was tighter around the head.
