Beautiful tutorial in an easy to follow format, whether reading front to back or stopping here and there to read about various topics while browsing through the book. Gave me the confidence to finally fulfill my lifelong dream (since the age of 9) of raising chickens in my small suburban yard without creating a smelly mess or detracting from the beauty of my many plants in a manner that won’t take more physical effort than my back can handle, even at the age of 71, if I simply follow the tried & true methods of The Chicken Chick. I’M SO HAPPY TO HAVE FOLLOWED THE ADVICE OF AN EXPERIENCED CHICKEN KEEPER TO BUY THIS BOOK!

I wish I had her book before I made a bunch of mistakes with my chickens. I found her website when I was research what normal droppings look like. Her article was the best with photo's so I had no doubts. After reading a couple more of her articles, I bought her book. By implementing her practices, my chickens are healthier, happier, and my chicken keeping care time got cut in 1/2, literally. Her information is backed from experts in their respective fields. I have not found anyone else who fact checks their information like she does. She also gives several options on some topics so she provides the information so you can make your own choice with accurate information. I was so confused by all the information from blogs. She cleared it all up for me. She also does a daily Facebook live where you can ask her questions and she will answer them live while you watch her beautiful chickens and yard. I seldom write reviews, but this book is a must have if you are going to raise backyard chickens. Get the book first, then the chickens.

I wish I had this book when I first started to keep chickens. There is so much confusing, conflicting information on the internet, and this book explains things so clearly. I appreciate that the author has researched topics thoroughly and consults with veterinarians, as well as sharing her own experiences.A must-have for people who want to take the best possible care of their flocks!

I have raised chickens for many years, my only regret is not having Kathy's ( The Chicken Chick ) book when I first started. It has been a long time since I've had baby chicks so after following Kathy on Facebook for a while I decided now was the time. I set my brooder up just like hers and I am amazed at how much easier it is looking after baby chicks. Kathy has this down to a science. Thank you Kathy for breathing new life into an old Chicken lover.

I got this book to do research and educate myself more, because we are looking to build a coop and get some chickens. This book is very informative and offers some great ideas. They will be a lot of work, but very rewarding too.

I read this book cover to cover before getting my chicks because I wanted to be absolutely certain that chickens were for me. I am happy to say that I loved this book and decided to purchase 7 chicks which are now growing like crazy and almost ready to be moved outside to their coop! The book prepared me for every possible scenario and every stage of their lives. I felt well prepared BEFORE buying my chicks and am so grateful for the wealth of knowledge and expertise provided by Kathy! I reference the book all the time so I would recommend purchasing the hard copy as opposed to the audio. Thank you Kathy for writing such a thorough and practical guide to keeping chickens!!! Also, I love her Amazon page with suggested items such as feeders and options for the brooder. So helpful!!! Highly recommend!

So many books make it complicated. Kathy's book is a great read that is comprehensive yet easy to understand and not overly complicated. I learned so much and gained confidence as well. Must read for those considering getting chickens!

What a great resource book! Informative, practical and easy to read. This is my go-to source as a new chicken owner and it’s packed with safe advise and guidance.

Arrived quickly and as described. This book is very easy to read and understand. It's written by an American author. The information is relevant wherever you're from. It is well thought out, covering everything you need to know to get you started keeping chickens. It addresses topics like how to get organised before you get chickens, which breeds to consider and why, what you need and what to expect, health basics including how to treat minor injuries and sickness, basic anatomy and diet, also ideas on introducing new chickens to your flock, and how seasonal changes affect your chickens. This is not a complete list of topics. See photo of contents page.I really enjoyed reading this book. It is beautifully illustrated, nicely written (see photo of Chicken bath page), full of details, suggestions, and experienced advice; it also warns you when it's going to talk about the messy, gritty bits before it steams right in with pertinent details.I can't recommend this book highly enough. If you are deciding whether to take the plunge and get chickens then this is the book to buy. You'll be informed and prepared to make the right choices with confidence.If you have chickens, it may give you some fresh ideas, or perhaps explain more clearly why certain behaviours or health conditions are happening with your flock.Great book! I’ve been keeping pet chickens for 12 years, so not a newbie & came across Chicken Chick’s daily Facebook lives when we were building a very large new run for our hens, which also have the run of the garden most of the time. I ordered the book & have really enjoyed it and even after all this time I’ve learned a lot from Kathy. I would definitely recommend for new chicken owners and this will be an excellent reference book for me in the future

Great book for a first time chicken keeper. Straight forward information with lovely colour photos. Covers all the important bits from housing to egg laying. I have even persuaded my husband to make the chicken gazebo
