Not your typical vampire book
I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and had a fast paced, interesting storyline. I wanted to read a vampire book that depicted vampires as cold blooded monsters. This book does that and it does not portray the vampires as romantic or sexy creatures like most of the books out there now. It is a mix of horror, action, suspense and drama and I was hooked by the first chapter. It doesn't offer a lot of gore or torture but it does have the right amount of horror to make it a horror book. I appreciated the writers creative attributes and characteristics of the vampires in his book, he made the story a lot more interesting because there wasn't the usual vampire traits you would expect to see in this book. If your looking for a unique and different way to read about a vampire then this book will satisfy you.

The Dead Travel Fast....
Since finding his novel, Those Across the River, I have kept a hopeful eye for more of Christopher Buehlman's work, and I have not been disappointed. Better yet each novel, with his terrifyingly fresh take on time worn horror, takes the reader along for an unexpected ride. The Suicide Motor Club is a rollercoaster of a ride. A band of nomadic vampires travelling the back roads of 60's America, led by joyfully cruel and vicious Luther Nixon, leaving a wake of blood and death behind their prized muscle cars. Until they take a child and leave a witnessI finished this book around 2am and immediately wanted to start over in case I had read too fast and missed something. Cannot wait more.

A Classic
Where to begin? This book is a story of a mother’s love, of love between a man & a woman, & a horrifying tale of evil. So many supernatural books are two dimensional. This is not one of them.

Supernatural Stakes Given A Very Human Face For Loss And Parent Fears
Immersed in the middle of this thrilling blend of NEAR DARK an end Tarantino's timeless lawlessness. Buehlman does the necessary by managing to imbue his characters with enough real life characteristics, so when his characters hurt and suffer, the reader feels the pain. As a parent, I found myself reduced to tears as a main character comes to terms with the grief of losing a child. Under the direction of Buehlman's smart hand, the character's plight is devastating. For fans of thrillers, and mysteries, do not miss this highlight of the Fall season.

In love!
No spoiler reviewLove love LOVE this author! Started with Those Across The River. This was my second read. Usually this type of story isn’t my favorite, but the pacing and story content and characters just blew me away. Best author I have found in a long time. Can’t wait to read more from him! I’m fangirling to any of my friends who will listen!

Unique take on vampire lore, vamp hunting, and the possibility--small thought it may be--of redemption.
Beautifully written, lacking a single cliche' about the predations of vampires who are living hard and fast. Very, very fast, with an incredibly peculiar--or unique, let's say, m.o.There's room for a sequel, but if that never happens, it's fine. The book is perfectly self-contained.

Great read!
This was the first novel from C.B. that I read and I really enjoyed it! I found it to be a truly original vampire tale. Being a car guy, I loved the fact that they were part of the story. Can't wait to pick another of his novels to read next!

The best horror I read this year
If you were a driver in the US back in the 60's, consider yourself lucky for being here. There were undead things roaming all over the place, hiding in abandoned mines or houses near the highway, stealing the fastest cars and feeding on innocent passers-by. Or maybe you have encountered them but don't remember. If there is a night on Route 66 you remember in a haze, then you've been spared. They let you go.But the thing is that someone noticed. Not all the people are susceptible to being brain-washed by them so when a woman survives a car wreck, she remembers her son being snatched away by them. And despite her attempts to tell herself it was all just a bad dream and trying her career in a cloister to forget her awful past, the destiny chose different path for her. She isn't the only one to know about them. So when a secret club of vampire slayers asks her to come along and avenge her little son, she agrees.I loved the story and its twists. It was terrifying and gruesome. The characters kept slowly ravelling their secrets so that I was constantly saying "aha! wow! what the.." and so on ;-)= I'm happy that the idea of the evil undead is still alive and hasn't disappeared from literature just yet. And even though a charming vampire character appears, the protagonist can see through him and doesn't get swept away.

Tense and Gripping
Extremely well written, taut prose that meant I was glued to this book until I finished it. Now off to buy more by this author.

Near Dark style action horror!
Fantastic....Near Dark meets Salems Lot in late '60s America, on Route 66. Highly recommended, this guy can write. Not just violence, but well-written good guys and bad guys. And if these creatures ever really existed, it also shows how utterly helpless most everyday people would be when faced with them. Chilling.
