I did not go to the dealership, I programmed them myself, using the instructions in the vehicle manual. If you didn't have remote start before it is probably because the remote start installation hasn't been completed for your vehicle. I believe, starting in 2011, all F-150 Lariat and higher had the remote start from the factory. That is true of some other cars and trucks. You should be able to find that out using google. However, if you bought it new and "remote start" wasn't a listed feature, that means although it might have a remote start, it doesn't have the antenna thats needed to make it work. If thats the case, just programming the key will not give you remote start. Ford will install it for around $300. It looks like an easy installation for the DIYer. The anti-theft transducer that is embedded in the key, and the remote buttons lock/unlock and remote start are two separate features and they have to be programmed separately. One has nothing to do with the other. You program the transducer first. That allows the key to start the vehicle without engaging the anti-theft system and to manually unlock the doors. After you get that working you then program the buttons. It is nothing but a series of turning the ignition switch on and off in the correct way for both. It works great. The directions are in the manual for your vehicle. **Q: What is the transponder ID number on these keys?** A: There isn't one listed. They are not interchangable.. You have to have the original key to set the frequency and then during programing it will assign the frequency and transponder to the vehicle **Q: I have a key seperate from the fob. Can I use this so I dont have to carry around the seperate fob?** A: Yes it is a fob with a key The key will need to be cut and the fob programmed to your vehicle.
