Must have for women’s health workers!
This book is very valuable for it especially for doulas. I do believe that any woman’s health workers should on this only because it is packed with so much information and resources. This guy is very straightforward. It is completely invaluable and I use it as a reference very often as I am a Doula myself. I have been able to find help within it and also confidence and want more I can do for others.

I good read for an aspiring doula
I good read for an aspiring doula. If you are on a training course through much of the information is repeated. Although I did take away some good points, especially when it came to speaking to a client.

Essential for birth and postpartum doulas.
This book is an excellent resource for all doulas, birth and postpartum. It is a excellent guide for topics to be covered by birth doulas as they prepare their clients for life with baby. It is a step by step instruction manual for postpartum doulas in their work with new families. For me, it is ultimate refresher class to my prior postpartum doula training with debra.

There are much better books out there
Narrow minded and often bigoted. There are much better books out there. Just pass on this one.

Great guide for anyone working with new moms and families
This is a great tool and provides helpful information for anyone who works with, or plans to work with, postpartum families. New moms and dads need nurturing, and support that is caring, practical, and informative and Nurturing Beginnings is the perfect guide to help professionals offer the care that families need.

Out dated, full of typos, and uninclusive of diverse families
It pains me to see that this book is among the choices for DONA's required reading list for certification. The book included medically inaccurate information; asserting at one point that you can contract HIV from bedding (you cannot). It assumes grossly outdated stereotypes about family structure, caretaking, and gender roles of parents. It has exactly 3 paragraphs on working with gay and lesbian families, which included little information. It's utterly uninclusive of diverse families and fails to prepare doulas for work in our ever changing social landscape. At certain points in the book, it's blatantly sexist and paternalistic. I'm glad it was free, because I'd never recommend it and feel more bitter if I'd have spent money on it.
