The fit does run small, but I was unsurprised given the description. I bought the 8-10 size for my 5 year old turning 6 and it fit fine. It's incredibly cute and fun, but it did not last the summer (and we didn't go swimming all that often). The suit material is thin and unlined, and it became stretched out after a couple of months. Especially the bottoms (thankfully, the skirt hid the problem, but the chaffing that resulted from the floppy underwear part of the suit rubbing between my daughter's thighs was bad. Apparently nothing can stop her from playing in the ocean, not even bleeding thighs).I would definitely not recommend using this swim suit in chlorinated pool water; wash very gently and line dry.

The skirt is a good length also
The top has a high neck line and is long which is exactly what we were looking for. The skirt is a good length also. Overall a great suit. The material seems good, we will see how it holds up.
