How does the keyboard tray "slide" back and forth when not in use?

What is one thing you would improve in this standing desk?

I would make the keyboard shelf retractable. Before choosing the desk, I looked at the measurements, I opted for the smaller version as it would fit my desk - it did not. It overhangs my desk by two inches. It is very big and clunky. Most of my co-workers who ordered one all complain about the same thing, the keyboard shelf overhangs their desks.

What’s the distance between the legs (outside edge to outside edge)? Looks like it would be less than 32” but I need the exact measurement. Thanks

The feet that support the desk (the pieces that actually come in contact with the table surface) are exactly 30 inches apart, from outer edge to outer edge. The desktop surface, both the area for the monitor and the keyboard tray, are 31.5 inches long. From the back of the monitor stand to the front edge of the keyboard tray, the permanent width is 24 inches. As you can see from the photo, the feet are 16 inches, but the keyboard tray sticks out a bit further than that and is not retractable. On a narrow desktop (18 inches, for example) the keyboard tray will overhand the edge of the desk, but it is not uncomfortable or bothersome.
