These Root Caps are made with HPMC capsule shells and a controlled release fertilizer. Gelatin breaks down and contains amino acids which contain sulfur, eventually, gelatin in the decomposition process releases sulfur and/or sulfur based gases, Hydrogen Sulfide or Sulfur dioxide, into the aquarium. These Root Caps are made of HPMC which does not contain amino acids, however they are made from Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen, and provide an additional carbon source in the aquarium. HPMC is biodegradable, and does not contain They last longer on the shelf due to reduced ambient water uptake. They are also less brittle than gelatin capsules if they are kept too dry.
