Shasta Lake: Boomtowns and the Building of the Shasta Dam

We stopped by the Big Dipper in Shasta Lake for lunch and saw a well worn copy of this book. While leafing through it my Mom found photo's of her Dad throughout the book. We bought it from Amazon and have been enjoying it ever since. She and her siblings were raised on 3-4 different dams as my grandfather moved them from one to another. She was 9 years old when he began working on Shasta; the book has reminded her of many wonderful childhood memories! Doreen

I have been a big fan and user of Shasta Lake for 50 yrs. After hearing the stories of how the lake and dam were built by my parents and Redding locales, I found this pictorial history book both fascinating and factual.The author was did a great job of following the time line of construction with photos and captions. A good read for history buffs of Shasta Dam!

Very cool historical photos!

I bought this book for my husband on a whim because he doesn't read books of any kind. I thought it would be cool since we both grew up in the area. He lived in "Central Valley" now none as Shasta Lake City and I grew up in Buckeye and Summit city. As my husband was looking at all the pictures he noticed a picture of his moms house which is now his, taken in 1946.
