Precaution: a novel. By: J.(James) Fenimore Cooper: Complete i

If you like Jane Austen, read "Precaution!"
James Fenimore Cooper started "Precaution" after reading Jane Austen-esque novels aloud to his wife and then said that he thought he could write a better one. He then wrote the first few chapters, and she encouraged him to finish it.I must say, I was skeptical at first, seeing as this was the first novel of the man who wrote "The Last of the Mohicans," but, being curious, I tried it out.He does indeed weave a tight storyline. Usually I can figure out who's going to end up with whom, but in this case, he throws a twist into the plot that even I couldn't decipher. As I read, I usually try to "what if" as I go, tossing all the possibilities that the story could take into the air. This time none of them fit the bill, so Cooper does weave a good, tight story that wraps up nicely in the end.
