Ivy and Horehound are toxic to pets, so why is it in this?

It may be worth clarifying that the type of ivy in this supplement is English Ivy - there are several species of what is commonly referred to as 'ivy' out there.

It sounds as though you are referring to both plants in their whole and 'raw' state, rather than how they are used in herbal medicine. If you simply research English Ivy (or Hedera helix) and/or Horehound and their safety for cats or dogs, you will find a resounding number of articles regarding their toxicity, if or when eaten by either type of animal.

However, if you use the correct verbiage for researching therapeutic uses of prepared plants/herbs for medicinal use, you will find different information. As such you may like to try looking into something such as "Hedera helix extract herb animals" or "Marrubium vulgare extract animals" (or something along those lines), and seek reliable articles, such as those posted for scholarly use. Herbal extracts often possess different properties than the raw or unprepared plant, which is why most go through an extraction process before they are used.

Both of these herbs are listed for use in pets in the Veterinary Herbal Medicine book, which is just one of the many resources which is used in our product formulation, but is also well regarded for its thorough, evidence-based direction on the practical use of a variety of herbs in veterinary practice.

And of course, getting the correct dosing is also key - too much of almost any type of plant or herb can be a bad thing. Lung Gold is designed to support the lower respiratory tract of dogs and cats, and is great to use as needed when your pet requires short term support during a lower respiratory issue.

Respir-Gold is a newer product we have introduced to support the efficient flow of air into and out of the lungs - as the name might suggest.

More specifically, the ingredients in this blend support normal immune response, which can help to prevent unnecessary mucus formation occurring when certain types of particles enter the lungs and cause irritation, and/or increase in histamine response (allergic reaction).
