4 3/8" with out lid...5 1/4" with lid.

Would this keep soup hot in it if heated before school until linch time?

I would say no unless you try insulating it with aluminum foil or something of that nature to keep the heat in. I make my coffee right before I walk out the door and my commute is only 35 to 40 minutes depending on traffic by the time I get to work my coffee has already cooled.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes, top rack only. Hand washing is preferred.
