3 stars for the story line...
but 1star for the way it was written. It reads like it was written by someone in the 4th grade. The dialogue (mostly between man and his dog) was choppy and childish. The writing was basic, lacking in vocabulary, repetitive and mind numbing. However, the story line was great and in the hands of a better writer could have been a page turner with embellishment and author's imagination.Do NOT pay for this book. If you can't get it free, let it go. However if you want an easy read, that will not challenge you in way and allow you to close your kindle at ANY point and not have the story niggle at you, then this is your book.Needless to say, I won't be reading anything else by this author.

The is a very good can’t put down book.
I liked the book. It was well written. You didn’t want to put it down, you would want to keep reading it to find out what happened . I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a good refreshing read. The author stayed with the storyline and there was no jumping around in the story.

Practice before publishing!
As other reviews have stated, this was written by someone who seems to have not read many books. Many words were simply wrong or incorrectly used. The syntax was a distraction from the meaning. It was a simple story, and had a lot of distracting elements that had nothing to do with the story. Maybe the sleeping in the car on a dirt road gave a bit of atmosphere to the story. What was the purpose of mentioning that the dog left a turd in the overgrown yard? Many other item were simply left out. Many times the main character comes "home" and prepares food and washes himself, but give no details. The description of the "old" house is mostly in the form of adjectives meaning old-- almost no description. The sound of dragging up and down the stairs is never explained, nor is the "locked" double doors that have no locks. Many loose ends in both the story and the writing. Very much in need of both an editor and a proofreader. In the sample of the next book that was included with this tiny kindle file was a mention of someone wearing "course clothing." Not coarse! Course! If the book was intended to be either horror or mystery, it was a complete failure. The author may be commended for being able to but so many words together, but there is a serious lack of plot, character, depth, grammatical correctness, and quite frankly, interest. My advice is to do some reading before any more writing.

Disappointing Read
The concept of the main story, as well as the short also contained in the book, are good. Unfortunately, the main story was extremely anticlimactic and disappointing in the end. The short had potential, but was not well written. The editing needs work, with a number of errors, in both pieces. Both pieces are also far too ‘name heavy’, continually using character names or the same descriptors over and over. The preview of another story in the end looks to be heading the same way. I feel the author has good ideas, and with better editing/Beta readers, could probably do good things with them.

Entertaining
Oliver Phipps is an awesome writer and does a great job telling this unique story.Mr. Oliver Phipps is a fantastic storyteller that makes you feel real emotion and feeling. I loved this story. It had suspense and mystery, interesting characters, and an interesting settingBud, with his dog Badger, looks for a momentary rent payment place to stay and comes across Cooper Lane Apartments. He rents the place, even when he knows it's out of control. Soon, there are enigmatic things fashionable around him. Ultimately, he decides to stay as his life is not yet exposed. But, he gets curious about it and wanders around to find the mystery behind the place. I look forward to reading more books from him. Highly recommended

A classic tale, well written and with a protagonist who’s much braver than I am!
Good natured Bud and his trusty mutt establish their new lives in a new town and in a house with a grim and secretive past.Another great story for the commute. I’ve never really been in to reading spooky tales but this was a really enjoyable read. Like a previous reviewer mentioned - a classic tale and written in a way that builds suspense perfectly.I have to admit (much to my embarrassment) that I had to stop reading the story late at night and finish it in the morning. The author must be doing something right!

Tiny stories.
Book was very short. Has a few short stories in it. Not as interesting as I thought it would be. Would not buy this author again. Don’t recommend it.
