I bought 2 at 2 different times and there were an astronomical and overwhelming lacquer-like smell after unwrapping them both. What is this???

Ours smelled aswell but after a while it airs out. we use it only for feet and the cats seem to like to lay on it

How long does it take to expand fully?

When I unpacked it the wedge was pretty much expanded. You could pretty much use it right then. It took very little time to fully expand. I didn't watch the clock but I would say well under an hour.

Will it help for back pain when laying on my back for to long?

It depends how bad your back is. It helps with lower back and swelling of your legs.
