Third pair
This is my third pair of New Balance 990v3. I have the blue, gray and now black pairs. I'll keep this short since shoe reviews are pretty straightforward to me. This shoe reminds of how shoes used to be made. These days I can't hardly buy shoes online because the sizes vary so much between brands. The 990v3 is a perfect fit for me in 11 4E. To give you an idea of how much other brands vary for me: I own and wear a pair of Nike Air Max that are sized 12.5. A pair of Adidas Thrashers that are sized 13. A pair of Brooks Glycerin in size 11.5 2E. And when I need to put work boots on, I have a pair of Red Wing's that are size 11. The boots don't need wide width since they are cut wider than running shoes. An interesting note: Both the Red Wings and these 990s by New Balance are part of "Heritage" collections. Also, if you have New Balance not from the Heritage line, your size most likely won't be the same. I bought a pair of New Balance hiking type shoes here on Amazon and have a review of them in my history that were way too small on me even though I got the same size I wear in the 990s. Quality and workmanship are both very high on these 990s. They're comfortable, even comfortable enough to leave on once you get home from work. The padding is very balanced, unlike most running shoes that tend to pad in the front, middle or heel. I've never complained about the price of these either. As a former athlete, I have had numerous severe/serious/needed surgery injuries to my legs, especially knees and ankles, but these shoes just feel good on my legs. My oldest pair of 990v3's are a couple years old and are still worn when I mow our yard. The padding in those are breaking down a little, but I wore them nearly everyday for a year before buying my second pair. To add to the durability of these shoes, I'm well over 6' and weigh between 250-300 at any given time. I couldn't be happier about spending another hundred and fifty dollars on the same pair of shoes I already have. They are well worth it. Last, I don't doubt those who are having the cat urine smell problem, but I can say I've not had it with any of my pairs of 990s. I can't recommend any shoe any higher than these.

Perfect walking shoe
I am on at least my fifth pair of these shoes. I walk 10K steps every day and have had a broken toe, so I like to switch out my shoes every 6 months. My podiatrist recommended these shoes. They do not wear out on the outside, but I replace them often for maximum cushion inside. I donate the old pairs. In the summer, I do not wear socks and the shoes breathe well. They are lightweight while giving me great support. I do have high arches. Very comfortable! The colors are nice and as advertised.

Great Choice!
After trying the NB998 and the NB567, the NB990 perfectly fit the bill. These shoes seem to be well-made and durable. As for the the sizing, they seem to run a bit small, so perhaps a half-size bigger may be required. The toe box is adequately sized for my medium D width. I particularly liked the styling of the navy blue 990 model, because it contrasts well with any attire - even when one is not an avid runner, such as I. The fit is nice around the ankle, good arch support and enough cushion for an average weight guy or gal. In comparing the NB990 to the other two: The NB998 was a retro-design running shoe, but for me this model slipped the heel even when walking. The NB567 was okay design-wise, however, for me the left toe box cramped a toe or two, which was not acceptable. Wear these around your house for a while to ensure a proper fit - that way, returns will not be an issue, if they ultimately don't fit correctly. The NB990 is a very nice athletic shoe. Made in USA, great quality, as expected.

New Balance are great, Made in Usa, but not as good as Hoka One One
Too small for me in forefoot toe box but I'm a 12.5 2E in new balance and they only had D so I got a 13 and it stretched ok cause it's real leather. Good shoe but not as comfy as the grey 990s I bought a few years ago, specifically these are less cushioned on forefoot sole (had 3 pairs I uses to swear by new balance but now Hoka is king of komfort) but I like the "murdered-out" all black it matches more clothes. I like the new grip on the soles vs previous models softer grippy-er rubber. Sole too thin/ firm on these new 990s I prefer the Hoka One One shoes I bought for actually running. These new balance are for just going out on the town or playing a little hoops with the kids or low level/casual athletic activity. Plan to lift weights in them at gym since the firm sole would be more stable for that and preferable to the Hoka there. I like that they're Made in USA most of all. Very soft pigskin leather is sweet. New Balance should come out with a Maximum Cushion shoe like Hoka. That's the only safe way to run and not ruin your knees/permanently wear out your cartilage in your joints. This is the way the elite running a community is trending(Hoka cushion) according to Frontrunners store guy in Brentwood /West Los Angeles (a guy at Top to Top also said a pro marathon guy came in and bought the Hoka Huaka I also bought on Amazon which was the lightest, softest, best cushioned, most breathable, low rise shoe I could imagine but the sole arch was positioned wrong and the inner edge of the arch was directly beneath the middle of my instep and it poked my instep unfortunately...the Huaka would be the perfect shoe if Hoka had wider shoes like new balance) and I wish Hoka or somebody did this years ago.

Best Sneakers/Running Shoes Ever!
I have been buying New Balance 990 series running shows since the 1990s, I love their look and feel and the fact that they are made in the USA. I have liked some years' models better than others, but I have always been satisfied with this shoe. These shoes usually last me a couple of years then I have to replace them. This year, I decided to do something different -- well, not that different. I wanted to buy 990s in some color other than gray. Anyhow, I bought them in all black. These shoes look so good I often end up wearing them in situations where I used to wear hard sole shoes. As far as comfort goes, these are just as comfortable as any other 990 shoes that I have purchased. Bottom line: These are great looking shoes and will feel great on your feet. I have never seen this color in retail stores, just the gray or the purple/magenta ones. Amazon has the best price on this particular model/color. I paid $116.00 after discounts and received them just 2 days later. I am very pleased with this purchase. In fact, since these shoes look so good just for every day wear, I will be picking up another set just to run in. Oh, one observation. These shoes seem to run 1 size or 1/2 of size to small on me. I bought size 13D 993 a couple of years ago. Those were somewhat loose. This year bought the same size 990 v in all black and they fit perfect. So, you might want to get a 1/2 size larger.

Perfect for Work...
I own the all black, the gray and the black and white models all in a size 11. I have owned two pairs for over 6 months and the all black for about a month. All of them have a nice clean look and work both for walking and jogging. I picked up the all black for work. I work retail and walk about 5 miles during a shift and so I was rather excited when I saw an all black model at a New Balance store. The clerk at the store told me that they rarely received that particular colorway and they only had it 4 sizes larger than what I needed. Boooo! Came home and checked Amazon...sure enough it was available and with 2 day free shipping with prime. Awesome. These shoes fit as expected that is true to size. Although they have prevented foot pain after a long day at the "office" the first day wearing these I was looking forward to taking them off...That seems to be the case with shoes that offer ample support for a heavier man like myself. Did I mention I use one pair for jogging? Yeah light jogging... I have read other reviews about issues with the tongue slipping to the sides. I have not had that problem however I do use the little vertical fabric "inlet" on the mid tongue to pass the laces through (Not sure what it is called)....I am not sure if that would help others but it seems to work for me. Another thing that I have read is that these shoes eventually smell like cat urine. With so many reviews out there stating this to be true from confirmed purchases I can only guess that I have been lucky or receiving newer updated models with the issue now resolved. Come to think of it...there could be one other thing- I always change the insoles after about a month to the "Superfeet" brand. The combo of these shoes with those insoles was sold to me by my podiatrist. It has been a life saver. I highly recommend these shoes to everyone...seriously not just here. And in this colorway...I highly recommend these for those pesky workplaces that require and all black shoe. I know that the price is steep but I am certain that if you value your feet as much as I do ( plantar fasciitis , bunch of spurs ) you realize pain relief is well worth the cost.

These fit great, were well and handle my orthodontics
I'm a big guy 6'2" and 230 with size 14 2E feet. I also have a leg length discrepancy. These fit great, wear well and handle my orthotics. I usually buy them when they are on sale and keep a couple of spare pairs in the closet. You have no idea how hard it is to find shoes that fit at my size so I have to plan ahead. These fit and fit well. I walk over 2 miles a day every day in them and then go to the gym (I'm 66) and they seem to last a long time. It may be because I rotate them with another pair. They are not the most fashionable, But, your can get them in other colors, but for me fashion be damned. With my jumbo sized feet I always look I have water skis on. So not much is going to change that look. The grey is fairly unobtrusive so that helps but for me its fit, comfort, and wear and these provide all three. I will again mention I buy them on sale and consider retail a little high.

I wore this model for a year and loved them. I finally said it was was time ...
I wore this model for a year and loved them. I finally said it was was time to purchase a new pair. I could have gone to the NB store down the street, but with a busy schedule and limited time. I ordered from Amazon. Shipping from Amazon was great, just as normal. I have no complaints with Amazon. I do however have an issue with New Balance. The Quality Control seems to be a little lacking on this pair. Something is not correct with the construction of the left shoe. I purchased these shoes back in June. I understand that I can not return them, they are shoes, once you wear them they are yours. What was strange was when I first put the shoes on and walked around the house I felt as if I had just come home from a long trip. I was happy to be at home again in a pair of 990's. I only wore them for a couple weeks and started to get a pain in my heel and arch. It felt as if something was in my shoe, like a high point in the middle of the heel and a second high point in close to the arch. This caused me to put more weight on the ball of my foot and in turned caused pain in the calf. I had to do something. I knew I was stuck with the shoes after wearing them for a couple days. I bought a pair of forty-five dollar NB in-certs. The in-certs seemed to help, but that too faded. An thus is why I am writing this review as I sit at my desk with my shoes off for some relief of the pain. I have now noticed that the sole is coming apart on from the left shoe. The sole coming apart after only a few weeks of usage. The soles on my 1.5 year 990's have not come apart. The old 990's sole is almost worn through, but never separated. I really feel that the day my shoes hit the Quality Control something happened and the person must have been distracted to let this left shoe off the line. I am just shocked how badly the left shoe feels. I will gladly pay for that MADE IN THE USA badge, but it really hurts when I am let down.Hurts my foot more than my wallet. I don't know if I will have much faith in NB for the next pair of shoes, which will have to be soon, since my soles on the original pair of 990's are almost worn through. Just an FYI, wear this model around the house for a couple days. Make sure there is not something wrong with either shoe.
