David Bellamy's Arabian Light: An Artist’s Journey Through Deserts, Mountains and Souks

Just incredible! I have a great interest in travel and different cultures, spending a few years living in India and travelling around Asia. My husband has lived in the Middle East too. A really fascinating book about the author's travels and encounters. The sketches and very beautiful paintings bring the world to life. It feels more personal and atmospheric than displaying photographs. The locations are truly awesome. I have a few travel journey books but I haven't found them this engaging, I'm drawn to it like a magnet. I love the author's sense of humour as well. He inspires me to paint some of my travels. As I now live in Canada I am going to have to order his Arctic Light book for some colder climate inspiration. This has to be my most favourite book I've ever owned!

I bought this book as a gift for our daughter who is starting to paint in water color. I own 6 or 7 of David Bellamy's books and I am a huge fan! After receiving this book today I am ordering another but this one is for me! The illustrations are just stunning !

. . . By an ill-informed, anti-Western diatribe in the afterword, and he seems almost apologetic towards Hezbollah in the section on Lebanon. While Mr. Bellamy is entitled to share his opinion, I wish I had known it before I bought the book. I certainly wouldn't have knowingly put money into the hands of someone who holds such beliefs. The paintings themselves are superb, but my view of them is now soured.

Very good read. A real insight into travelling the Silk Road in old times. Loved it
