With these speakers I am well pleased!
Originally was shopping for monitors for my synthesizer, and stumbled across reviews for these speakers. Saw a sound demo of Edifier speakers vs JBL monitors and they went toe to toe, but having the Bluetooth capability so that I can listen to my music on command via Alexa (Amazon Unlimited) was the tipping point. These speakers are excellently packaged and well protected during delivery. The package was 45 lbs. cuz these speakers are built like a tank! The real solid wood sides are rather attractive and the speaker covers are also elegant and sleek, but are sheer allowing the looks of the drivers and tweeters to be appreciated. They don't seem to diffuse the sound at all IMO. Now, for the record, I'm new to the speaker game, but I've listened to some outstanding audiophile approved equipment, so I appreciate hearing music as it was meant to be heard, and these speakers opened up old familiar tunes and brought out detail and nuance. I couldn't stop grinning for an hour when I plugged it in, connected the two speakers with the surprisingly robust cable, and connected my echo dot via Bluetooth. My 21 year old daughter said it simply and best when she remarked "These speakers are making me really excited about music!" I've only had them a few days and haven't even finished a burn in, but they have met and exceeded expectations thus far. I moved them into an adjacent bedroom with the door shut to paint and enjoy music, and thanks to Bluetooth aptx they suffer absolutely no connection issues. Still yet to hook them up to my Korg synthesizer, but I am expecting that to sound amazing as well. The 120W provide plenty of room filling sound and would excel as home theater speakers as well with excellent bass response. I sense no distortion of sound even at max volume, which is pretty darn loud. Truthfully, I wanted the Edifier S2000Pro, but Edifier has taken them off the market for some reason, so I went with these after seeing so many glowing reviews. I love them and wish I could take them with me everywhere I go. My next purchase will be some proper speaker stands, so they can be elevated to an optimal listening position. An excellent investment for lovers of music! UPDATE: Had these for about 5 weeks now and I got some Edifier speaker stands which put them at the perfect height for my man cave. Highly recommend them. Also found that wire connecting my Amazon echo dot to the speakers gives even more powerful sound than bluetooth. Also, the synthesizer sounds awesome through them! I attached a video of my daughter just fiddling around with my Korg running thru the speakers, but it's just a phone video that doesn't do it justice. February 2019 UPDATE: These speakers still perform flawlessly. I use them to play music, basically all my instruments (synth, guitar, vocals, drum machine), and bluetooth my phone thru them on occasion. Its so easy to transition between them all with the remote. I have been so happy with them I bought some smaller Edifiers for my office at work. December 2019 Update: These speakers are still kickin butt, with frequent, nearly daily use. And they are on and powered pretty much 100% of the time. Last weekend, I used them outside for a Christmas movie display outside in the front yard. We had a projector displaying onto a movie screen and watched Elf, Christmas Vacation & Die Hard, and the Edifiers took care of the sound. There was a small amount of frost on them by the time we finished but they are still working flawlessly. These speakers may be the best music entertainment purchase I have ever made.

Surprisingly excellet on all levels
Briefly, looking for wireless speakers for my wife in a new house. There seems to be a lot of junk out there, small single speakers and the like, maybe not really junk. Also, I was really learning about bluetooth speakers, never having purchased them before. I stumbled upon these, this was roughly the price range I was looking for, and the reviews here and elsewhere were generally positive We set them up and we were all blown away by (a) how good they sound for bookshelf speakers that are not that large (though heavy, especially the one with the amp in it, the right one); the bass is good, better than I expected across a range of music, and that's leaving the bass control in the neutral position, the mids and highs are excellent, the volue is fine for an open-ended living room that abuts the kitchen; and (b) the ease of connecting via bluetooth across different sources (multiple cell phones, my laptop, my wife's tablet); amd (c) combining (a) and (b), the sound coming through these bluetooth speakers was remarkable, my first expereince, whatever compression exists with bluetooth was not that noticeable and I have pretty good ears (if a bit old) for audio sound. I had never heard of edifier before, but will attend to them in the future. My brother-in-law (a cabinet designer and builder in the past who is still quite skills with wood) claimed that the wood is not really wood, but you could fool me. The level of detail on these is quite good. They do not look cheap, but rather quite the opposite, very well built with attention to detail. Personally, I thought they looked kind of ugly in the pictures I've seen and was pleasant surprised by how nice they look in reality. The price seems commensurate with the qulity. These were $50 US cheaper here at Amazon compared to some other on-line retailers where I usually shop for this sort of stuff. Anyway, my wife loves these, just loves them, which for me adds to their value as they were a Christmas present to her. I really was not sure if these were going to work out, and they did so perfectly.

The S1000DB powered speakers were a wonderful surprise in quality of construction
The S1000DB powered speakers were a wonderful surprise in quality of construction, appearance, and performance that was far above what I expected. While I am not an audio engineer, I am an electronics engineer and an audiophile with enough experience to know that the better specifications of the S1000DB warranted the modest increase in price; and, after experiencing the surprising performance of these speakers, I have no regrets at all about my decision. The diverse array of bluetooth, phono, optical and coaxial inputs are easily selected by the little remote control unit and allowed me to easily integrate the speakers with my TV, DVD player, PC, and cellphone. Some negative comments suggest that losing the remote control is a disaster for switching inputs, but that must only be true for the chronically lazy because pushing inward on the powered unit's volume control knob steps though all the inputs just like the remote. While it takes the effort for one to get off his/her backsides and walk over to the powered unit, all system functions are fully operable from the unit's local controls without the remote. Other reviews also find fault with the fact that the volume control knob is simply a rotating up/down level control with no stops and that the volume level reverts back to mid-level when the speakers are powered down; however, this is a much appreciated feature for those who've partied all night with a sound system at full volume - then soiled themselves when turning it on again in the morning. The bass response is very good and quite surprising for such a relatively small set of speakers, but don't expect them to rattle dishes in the kitchen cabinet like an expensive home theater system with a brain-pounding 200 watt sub-woofer. The mid-range and high frequencies are crisp, crystal clear, un-distorted and perhaps a little overpowering at high volume levels; however, turning the bass control up and turning the treble control down a bit brought everything into a very good balance in my living room that has no-so-whoopie acoustic properties. My wife has acute hearing efficiency that is far above that of most people (probably a bit better than that of a whitetail deer), and she is crazy about these speakers because she can run them WFO with no distortion whatsoever while she's playing her head-pounding zumba-dance music through the bluetooth link from her cellphone while working out. While these are Chinese-made speakers, the US-based seller/distributor backs them with any needed service, replacement or setup/installation information which helped eliminate my worry about buying them. The speakers arrived very quickly after I ordered them, and the seller sent me a lengthy email right after their arrival that expressed thanks for my purchase and included extensive contact information in the event there was any shipping damage, performance problems or installation/operation questions. I've read some of the reviews that suggest the many highly positive reviews for these speakers come from shills working for the seller; however, after putting these speakers trough some my usual skeptically-biased personal testing, I'm convinced that most or all of the highly negative reviews either originate from shills working for competitors or from those unfortunate few who are unable to understand the simplest of instructions. I can't speak for the lesser Edifier models, but I am extremely happy with the model S1000DB I purchased and seriously doubt that anything near their very reasonable price can either equal or better them.

Good Speakers But Audiophile?
Nice shelf speakers for use with Bluetooth devices and as a secondary sound source. I bought these for my Sonos sound system and use them in a small bedroom. While they cannot perform at the same level as some speakers their size, they do an adequate job for their intended purpose at that price point. I don't expect a lot from shelf speakers that are internally amplified and have extra internal circuitry for use with Bluetooth. While the bass is not what you would want for primary speakers, they do a good job of filling a small room with sound. Because they are self-amplified, I can use multiple music sources such as the cheaper Sonos Connect ZonePlayer 90 instead of the more expensive amplified ZonePlayer 120, so it saves me money and space. And if needed, I can set them up with my smart phone for on-the-go parties*. They are ported in the back and have a small red light in front on the primary speaker when powered on. The remote that comes with it has room for improvement and is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket but can easily get lost. A caveat: If you lose it, you will lose some of the speakers' functionality. These speakers are attractive and work better at table or lower-shelf level and are heavy for their size as they pack a lot of circuitry inside for all they do. *It may be a hassle for someone who wants to use them in a multi purpose role as the settings are more of a set-it and forget-it type of configuration. Going back and forth from Bluetooth to a configuration like I use with Sonos can be too much trouble for some people.

If you're on the fence of buying these, read this.
Before I give my input on these speakers, I'd like to give you a little background - I own the Edifier 1700's, Klipsch RF-82's, Audioengine's A5+, and a host of other speakers from mid grade to upper-end audiophile quality speakers. I consider myself to have a pretty good ear for quality, all of my vehicles (Including my wives) have full component speakers, and are separately amplified. With that being said, I was expecting quite a bit out of these at the price of 349.99, especially at almost three times the cost of my 1700's (Which are excellent for the size). Unboxing - They were packaged excellently! They were shipped inside an amazon box, and inside the Amazon box is the outer edifier protector box, and finally the box with the speakers in them. A delivery driver would be hard pressed to hurt these speakers, you could literally throw them around and inside three boxes they are safe. Very impressed Edifier went the extra mile to double box it (and amazon to put it in another box on top of that!). Build Quality - The build quality on these is incredible for the price, it is on par or even above my Klipsch's or audiogene's, the attention to detail is excellent and the fit and finish are on point. I was a little worried about the picture of the wood, that it would be too "Oaky" looking for my taste, but the color was quite a bit warmer than it looked in the pictures which were a nice surprise. These things are heavy! Even the speaker without the amplifier is very hefty for its size. they did not skimp on material or build quality in the cabinet. The only thing I'm personally not a fan of is there is no grill tabs around the tweeter which make it a little flimsy. The remote control works well and is a HUGE improvement over the plasticky remote that came with my 1700's. It almost feels as if it's made out of aluminum, and has a little weight to it. Also, the including cables are a nice touch. It comes with a Toslink optical cable, 3.5MM Aux to RCA, and RCA's. The cable between speakers is very long and high quality. Sound Quality - This is what it's actually all about right? I've heard many speakers, and own quite a few myself as previously stated, and all I can say is they are exceptional. If these speakers were $499, I still think they would be an excellent deal, which is a lot coming from me, considering the fact that I'm kind of cheap and always looking for a deal. The high's, mid's and low's blend together flawlessly. The tweeters are not shrill, they sound extremely uncolored and natural. I feel as if most speakers (especially self-amplified) lack either mid's, or low's, and are one or the other type speakers, and I can absolutely say that these S1000DB's do both, exceptionally well, and with clarity that you don't find in this price range. The frequency response in the lower end, in my listening room, which is a little biased to help the lower end, with corner placed speakers and listening area in the rear center, helps the low's a bit acoustically. These dug much deeper than they claimed to. Response from Edifier is down to 48HZ. I tested these and they stayed steady down to 37HZ -3DB! That is literally incredible considering their size (5.5" Woofers), and even more incredible considering it does the low's so well, while also having excellent sounding mids. They do get quite loud, I would say they are very efficient speakers. Plenty loud for me, I don't think I'll ever turn them up past 75%. They do sound flat and undistorted to maximum volume. I could literally almost find no cons with these. A+ To edifier for making these affordable and without compromise on sound quality or build quality.

Great craftsmanship, no regrets.
Never had a pair of speakers that were MEANT to be played at full volume. These things are great, I loved the $99 Edifier speakers I bought for my roommate for his birthday, but I wanted something louder and "higher quality" for myself. These hit every mark. If you are trying to get "the best" audio, you will never be able to spend enough money. You will wind up spending $600 per bookshelf speaker, plus a $1000 amplifier (because otherwise you are "wasting the potential of your speakers"). You will subscribe to TIDAL or buy uncompressed FLACs, or have a fancy record player/CD setup. If that's what you want, more power to you, but these will hit the mark for 90% of Audio-"Just enthusiast"-philes, and come it at about $150 cheaper than the competition. PROS: Build quality is AMAZING, these are SUPER heavy and NOT GOING ANYWHERE. Set them up and crank it up. Volume: These things get LOUD. They don't have room-shaking bass, but that bass that is there is accurate to the song and still very powerful. Some people say these will wake your neighbors, but unless you're living in an apartment I disagree. I can fill the entire floor of my house plus some of the downstairs, though. Quality: I love the way these sound, I spend several days just listening to every song in my most recent playlists just to hear what they sounded like. I bought Edifiers because I wanted something that sounded good, was made of wood, and had high-quality metal tweeters/woofers. While I could have bought a 800W Surround sound system, I would rather have a good-sounding stereo. I also didn't want to mess with an amplifier or buy unpowered speakers that require an amplifier. CONS: Volume: The bluetooth is not loud. I would say it's about 75% as loud as it can get from an optical/3.5mm connection. That's the negative to these speakers. The best way to get it louder is to plug in the AUX cord to a PC or Chromecast Audio and turn it up from there. Remote: I don't like having to switch inputs only via remote; I wish there were buttons on the actual speakers to switch inputs. Other speakers I have allow you to connect two inputs at once and play both at the same time; not so with these speakers. The remote is handy for switching to bluetooth if I don't want to turn on my PC/TV. Bass: While you can turn the bass up a bit on these, they aren't going to shake the room. It's a little disappointing, and I might look into adding a crossover to add a subwoofer for things like video games or movies. But for just listening to music, I am actually happy without the bass; these provide a more accurate representation of the base audio file, vs. a trumped up bassline that was never there in the first place.

Excellent Speakers for Refined Listening
I was tired of getting cheaper speakers that would distort at anything over 70%, had awful highs and brassy lows..so I made the jump to this level of speaker when they were on sale for $250. PROS: - Bluetooth worked out of the box, connected to my mobile devices in a cinch. - Classy design, sturdy materials all around. Boasts a design that matches interiors well without being a boring solid-black. - Fills a room with sound without distortion. In particular, its high end is immaculate. - EQ on the back of the primary speaker. - Incredibly “flat” sound, I imagine these would be excellent for Studio Monitoring - they don’t have piercing highs or muddy lows, all the sound that comes from them feels subdued instead of harsh. - Heard nuances in my favorite songs I’ve literally never heard before. CONS: - The only thing I could see someone being disappointed in, is if you max the Bass EQ knob and volume, the flaws in its Bass sound do come out. It has a bit of an airy, hollow kick to it instead of a more powerful boom. For me, I don’t listen to rave, dubstep style music. IMO, their bass levels are perfectly adequate for ordinary listening, at least for the music I listen to, even at high volume. - The next thing is, while listening indoors in a moderately sized room, these put out more than enough sound to suit anyone’s fancy. They do not, however, have the kind of sound that’ll rock the walls in a warehouse building. That’s not really what they’re made for, but it’s worth mentioning. They do get loud, but not extremely loud. Louder than I’ll ever need, myself. TL;DR: If all you want out of your speakers are extremely high volumes with chest-pounding bass for a public event, these are probably not your speakers. If you’re listening in your room, home theatre or something similar, they shine. - Oh, last mention. The RCA cable to hook these up to your PC is very short. Like 2 feet tops. Unless they’re on the desk with your PC, you’ll need an extension.

Meh sound, good build, app lacking
If you want good sound, you have to buy an external streamer that actually provides hi-rez via analog or optical input...otherwise they sound meh. Let's get one thing straight, anyone RAVING about the sound performance has NEVER heard a true high fidelity system. And, right out of the box, the setup of WiFi did NOT work via the app on Android (had to use my wife's iPhone to get it to FINALLY work - 😡) So the features are okay. It is nice to stream via Tidal Connect, but the resolution is limited to "high" not "max". So CD quality is as high as they can play. They won't play 24-bit/96 kHz. That sucks for $400+ bucks. I was forced to order another $200+ streamer to connect to it in order to enjoy the promised hi-rez audio! That just is not acceptable! And as it relates to sound...they have two issues. They lack low end even with bass turned all the way up. Secondly, they aren't very expressive in the mids (flat, shouting, lacking texture). I immediately turned the highs down a few notches which did make them smoother and less etched. The highs are not airy and extended, sadly. They are more metallic. They do play very loud, but again at those volumes they lack weight and texture, so they sound flat and shouty. These issues improved with an external $250 streamer, but again why force people to spend that much more to get what is promised?! I guess the other reviewers don't have my audio experience or references to know how badly these fall short (on their own) for true audiophile quality listening. They are built well, solid and packaged well for delivery. The app is sorely lacking. For sure the Android version is essentially BROKEN, preventing setup. And realistically, with companies like Eversolo creating amazing products and apps this company is WAAAAY behind. I mean, why doesn't the Edifier app have any tools for sculpting the EQ? Just a bass and treble knob isn't sufficient. Buyer beware, these speakers without a $250+ external streamer are simply "meh / okay" for the price. Sad, but true.
