This will work on your clothing material that is thin and made of natural materials. It depends where you live and the conditions in your home if they are hot and humid or cold and dry. Both will factor in with the tape. Upholstery for furniture is completely different from clothing material. Upholstery for furniture is meant intentionally not have things stick to it. That is why you usually see all the metal work on furniture. Like the pins around the arms and along the bottom the sofa or chair. Try sewing velcro on the piece.
