I've never purchased an awl before, but needed one to size my belt. This is incredibly sharp, sharper even than I needed; and it's narrow, much narrower than I hoped. In other words, this wasn't the tool for my job, but I can easily see how excellent it would be for finer details in DIY and crafts. In fact, feeling its construction made me want to find something to use it on. I've since used it to poke fine holes in laminate for Children's Christmas decorations, but I think it would get its best use in fine pottery and sculpture--crafting precise details and design at the smallest level. It's more precise than my smallest pens, and I feel like I could craft a masterpiece.

This awl is definitely on the smaller side, just like other reviews have pointed out. That said, it’s lightweight and easy to handle, and the wooden grip feels comfortable in the hand. The metal is strong and doesn’t flex much, which makes it reliable for punching holes in leather or other materials. The tip is incredibly sharp and pointy, so it goes through with ease. For the price, this is a solid buy. It’s not a heavy-duty, professional awl, but for small leather projects or DIY work it gets the job done better than expected.

Nice size works well

It is smalller than what I expected but it works.

I love this awl. It is sharp and the point is so small it can go through nearly anything. I use it for my leather crafting, but I also use it on my home made candles should the wick fall side ways. I push the awl into the candle, pull it out and insert another wick. I can use it on my leather bridles to make another hole and many other things.
