2013 two CD release that combines the two volumes of Hardcore, which contained early Devo recordings. Hardcore documents the group's beginning as Pre-Punk outcasts in the fertile Akron, Ohio, underground Rock scene. Spawned at the nearby college of Kent State, Devo formed as a conceptual art project armed with the radical philosophy of de-evolution. Recorded on various four-track machines and in tiny studios, basements and garages between 1974 and 1977, Hardcore reveals their strikingly clear vision: Rock 'n' Roll stripped bare of it's collective cool and jerked back into propaganda fit for post-modern man. It's no surprise that these transmissions would soon catch the eye and ear of Brian Eno, who later produced their landmark 1978 debut album. Noisy synthesizer, strangled guitar chops and a primitive rhythmic thud power the early Devo sound. This is pure Devo: The sweetest crude, straight from the source!

For Those Spuds That Grow Deep in the Garden of Devolution
Volumes 1 and 2 of Hardcore Devo will illuminate, to the initiated spud, the murky and low-fidelity darkness from whence rose Devo's brand; to those hinky-dinks that dare not declare, volumes 1 and 2 of Hardcore Devo will encourage you to listen to "whip it" or "mongoloid" instead.Hear the dreadful drone of the swell-feeling Mechanical Man; hear of the acid head goon who left a wake of distrodden bodies; find the mad scientist's prototype of "Going Under" with All of Us; drink from the Fountain of Filth; step into an era never occurred with Buttered Beauties.Rich material to the devoted mutant, quite raw and dark work to one who's interest lies not so deep.

Devo's hardcore lp volume 1.
This came in perfect sealed condition ..as advertised...Came quick too! This is a great lp.An absolute must have for Devo fans!Or anyone into early proto Punk or what would become New Wave. These originally were all released on a small label before they were discovered by David Bowie & Brian Eno ..who set up the recording of there 1st album. Some of these go back to 74!So while the Ramones were just starting out in CBGB's ...Devo was already fully formed pretty much.Original versions of Jocko Homo & Mongoloid! Not to mention Uglatto! ..which was like one of the earliest Punk songs.I'm so happy I bought this vinyl!I totally recommend this to anyone who a fan of early Punk.

This is the best Devo Album ever made
Hardcore Devo was released on two CD parts 1 and part 2, I somehow lost my copies and they have out of print for years, but this cd has all the songs of both part 1 and part 2, plus some new songs. These recordings were made from 1974 to 1977, and they are the early tracks. The feature a lot of electronic music but also some good guitar tracks and base lines. I flavor electronic music, but the guitars here are also very good, and so with this cd you can not go wrong. The music does not sound like the hit song "Whip It", which I can not stand. This is experimental underground sort of music. I listened to them over and over again during the 90s. If you get this cd you can listen in high quality and make your own mp3s, because amazon does not have all of the hardcore devo songs available for individual purchase. Which is why I suggest buying this cd instead of downloading the tracks, plus there are so many songs, this is a two cd set, that you will save money over just purchasing them piece by piece as mp3s.

Indie Devo
This isn't as polished as the major label releases but may be more interesting. Imagine if Devo had been able to post hundreds of songs and videos on Soundcloud and YouTube, then it would have been a lot like these recordings. This isn't really "punk" or "new wave". This isn't influenced by Iggy Pop or Krautrock/ Kraftwerk but more like 70's prog rock or off beat stuff. The tempos tend to be more mid to slow, the more spastic faster tempos come later in the band's career. Not as experimental/left field as I was expecting like "Jocko Homo", but more like Dr. Demento.

WOW! OMG! HOOPLA! HUZZAH!
This is the best album, ever. (Granted, I might not say that in a month but that's how I feel right now.)When I bought my first Devo album I was hoping for the kind pf de-evolutionary radicalism this collection throbs with. Instead, I got the disappointingly watered-down corporate-approved version of Devo music. But this collection, 2 CDs containing "Hardcore" 1 & 2, is true spud-powered geek punk. This is what I've longed for since I saw Devo do "Satisfaction" and "Jocko Homo" on SNL all those years ago. Had I attended early concerts I would have known that the real Devo blazed on stage with a fire not realized on vinyl. Watch videos of early concerts. You will gasp with awe. They were a helluva band. That primal de-evolutionary fire burns throughout this awe-inspiring collection. These recordings are called "demos." That's a stupid thing to call them. These recordings are Devo recorded by Devo, produced by Devo and approved by nobody. This is the real thing, spud. You'll geek out. You'll punch the air. You'll laugh your arse off. This collection rocks. Period.

Get it!
This is an album worth holding in your hand rather than just getting a download. The cover booklet is thick and glossy yet does not get finger printed when you touch it. It includes some art work and photos. I prefer the 2nd disk which includes 25 tracks. It's really cool hearing early versions of Be Stiff and Jocko Homo as well as the old tracks that were new to me. I love the bouncy outer space sounds combined with classic punk rock that create Devo's unique sound. Most tracks on this album either made me want to get up and dance, or make me mellow out and want to listen. There are tracks that shocked me, made me laugh, or play on repeat because I never heard anything like it before. I think any Devo fan should be able to have fun with this album.

Must have for a true DEVO fan!
This is Early DEVO at irs most experimental and probably npot for the uninitiated. There is a reason most of these songs did not make it onto any of their other disks! Still, for a true DEVO-Tee this is a must have compilation! This is raw, mind warping stuff. The music is almost always obbviously DEVO. The price is well worth it. Contained you get both Hardcore Volume 1 and Hardore Volume 2 in one collection. A total of 40 tracks in all. Disk 2 is even more raw than disk 1. My favorite songs from the whole shebang are both on Disk 2 "A Plan For You" and "Shimmy Shake". For those reluctant to buy, there are at least 8 alternative mix tracks to more 'famous' DEVO songs.
