For the last 50 years I have taken a size 10 (44) so that's what I ordered but they were tight so I went up to a 10.5 which were still a little tight on one foot and I ended up with size 11. That sorted though I am very pleased with these shoes. They are very comfortable and much lighter than my previous walking shoes. I don't hike but I do walk a lot and have found them to be just what I wanted.
