ZoMei 77mm Variable Neutral Density Filter 77VND for Camera Lenses

I found this filter to be well enough built to suit my needs, and is nicely packaged for the price.Well built filter, but there are issues with it.The 'X' issue is present the more ND you dial in, despite the claim in the product listings.Even more disturbing is the color and tone distortion visible at any ND amount 25% and greater (where 0-100% = the filter's capable density)At 100% ND, the X-effect and distortion of tonal areas is unacceptable to me.For those seeking variable ND, these factors are difficult or impossible to escape, but some deft Processing can certainly minimize these effects.I tested for issues at three focal lengths (35mm medium wide, 24mm wide and 15mm super wide), and I set the filter to four ND positions at each focal length.My tests conclude that this variable ND filter will work to help slow down exposures, but for some photographers it has some drawbacks.

I plan on eventually getting a B+W, I like multicoated which this does not have, but I knew that. It IS optical glass, so I am glad that was true, think it's from Japan. Slides very smooth, mounts smooth, works great. For a fader ND at $40, it's a great deal just know it is not coated nor German glass.I get zero X at maximum.Box was a touch beat up and no tape to indicate sealed. Does not have a case to store in unless you reuse box, I'll use my UV filter box from B+W.If all that I mentioned works for you, then get it. Will it reduce sharpness??? Possibly, but I do not zoom in 500% and pixel F what I shoot like YouTube reviewers.

Works okay as a cheap ND filter, but the quality is rather poor. Filter reflections are more prevalent with this product than I've ever seen before and it has strange 2 corner vignetting when used at a certain angle no matter what focal length lens you're using even on s35. If you're just looking for a filter on a crash cam that's disposable this will work fine. If you want to use it on your main camera however save your money up and wait to buy a higher quality one.

I was expecting a bit more from this filter. I understand I get what I get for the price but for the last 2 settings the vignetting is horrible and unusable. if you need to bring down the light just a bit this would work but not if you need it at its darkest. Save up and get the pricy one.

I never write reviews but I hated it so much that I had to write one. Once the filter gets past the 5th stop, the top right and bottom left corners get significantly darker than the rest of the picture. It makes it completely unusable.
