Wow!
My son is 9 and absolutely loves building electronics, legos, or anything else with or without wires. This was a perfect step up for him in the building process! Not to mention watching it come alive and testing the legs was really fun. All of his hard work paid off when it was complete and tromping around our house. It’s a very neat toy!! Very bulky but I like that because it’s not as fragile as some of my sons other robots. We have 2 toddlers and it seems ok for them to pick it up without breaking it.

Fun for 7yo and 10yo. Too slow to chase the cat (which is good). Large app download can be finicky.
My 7yo daughter an 10yo son really like this guy, especially once I finished putting it together. Assembly is not for the impatient and the instructions could be a lot clearer, but it's not a big challenge. Take your time, read carefully, and don't be surprised if you have to go back to rebuild a couple of parts three or four steps later. We've played the don't-get-squirted game a few times and the kids have driven him around the apartment but since then he's largely sat on a table. They've been away for a few weeks and they've both said they're looking forward to playing with him again when they get back. Maybe they just want to try to terrorize the cat. (She's too smart for them and runs as soon as she hears the spider turn on.)The first time we tried to run the app we had a slow internet connection and it kept timing out before it could download what it needed for the spider. Going back to civilization fixed that, but Meccano should make the application more resilient and not require it to download everything or nothing, forcing it to start from scratch every time. You'll want to recheck the screws pretty often as they tend to work themselves loose when he's walking.

Better than expected
This was a Christmas gift for my 16 year old son. I was afraid he might be too old for it but he loved it. It took him about 3.5 hours to build it. It would have taken a little less time but one of the wires got stuck in the casing and it cut the wire. We were able to splice the wire and it works perfectly. I actually researched this toy on YouTube before purchasing the how to video was very helpful.

Great for a Girl Scout STEM Robotics Badge project
We purchased this to earn the Robotics badge for our Girl Scout troop. The girls in our troop are 16, and this kit was wonderful teaching them how robotics work as well as programming. The only problem with the programming was that we had difficulty after downloading the app, but due to time constraints we didn't try very hard, so not sure if it actually works or not.

Bought this for my 5 year old grand son
Bought this for my grandson who was 5 year old and he managed to assemble the whole thing himself with little assistance. When assembled together, bits don't fall out or get undone, it is solid. I would recommend for improving skills.

Fun to build
Got this for my son a while back and he just put this together a month ago ... it kept him busy ,he was able to build it on his own didnt even ask for help and it took him about 6 hrs to get it done. End results were great

Looks awesome!
Really cool toy. Wanted to give it 5 stars because my son loved it, but the water (venom) mechanism stopped working recently - few months in. We are really gentle with it. Also, they call it a spider, yet it has 6 legs - which I liked because they are a bit painful to build.
