this is a fabulous book for anyone interested in mythology--it's also a great read as well as a reference book

good series

This was purchased as a gift for a middle school aged boy who was very interested in Mythology. Also, approved by the same-age boy who gave it to him.

This book is absolutely amazing. I purchased this at Barnes and Noble and it's really fantastic! It's well written and reads well too. I'm looking for the others in this series however, and I can't seem to find them. I have the one on trees, but that's all. Thanks to anyone who can help me find all the others. :)

For those who are truly enchanted by mythology, the Encyclopedia of World Mythology, generally edited by Arthur Cotteral, is the absolute must-have book. The collection of stories and amazing legends will entice you as well as inspire you to learn into the very depths of mythology. This book offers the essential element of the beliefs of every major culture. It is the ultimate guide to the diversity of people and their beliefs, with no other book yet its equal.

Someone seriously messed up when they published this book. The font is almos impossible to read, and the italics under each illustration is literally impossible to read. Awful .

Leaves out Africa and North and South America... but I think it's pretty good for what it does include. The history mistakes are a bit annoying but I bought it for mythology so that doesn't matter too much to me (but it should to the publisher!).

It is a collector's item. Loved the look and the pages.

Soooooo much to explore...... Paper quality is amazing and has colored pictures. Must have!!!

I started to read a copy of this in my dentist's waiting room and I found it so interesting that as soon as I came home I ordered my own copy. Concise and well researched, it presents the rich narratives of the mythologies of various countries and cultures. Fascinating and informative, it refreshes my memory of the myths I knew and introduces me to those I didn't.

This book is really just an encyclopaedia. Some chapters already presume that you know the characters from each specific myth from a specific culture. I bought this so I could read all the myths and legends from all around the world, but not all chapters are very descriptive, so unless you already have a good understanding of myths and legends, then I wouldn't recommend it.

I ordered this book hoping it would be an informative reference. I was so disappointed when it arrived. The text is so small it is very difficult to read, the illustrations are poor quality, the whole book has been cheaply produced, the pages are too small for the type of book it is and the layout is alphabetical by name rather than individual stories. I would not recommend it to anyone.
