It doesn't over power the flavor of the caramel but you will get a crunch or two of the salt crystals which really amplify the flavor! **Q: When is the expiration date or how long is the shelflife** A: I am sorry I cannot answer this. The one I ordered was last year. As with all food products the expiration date depends on when made. This is a different batch. They are soft and buttery. They are a welcome departure from the overly hard, dry and bland caramels that seem to be industry standard these days. Each one is individually wrapped in wax paper that is easy to remove unlike the "invisible cellophane" that often is used to cover cheap caramels and which requires extensive time and effort to remove.
