I have my clock plugged into a power strip and it didn't block anything. Works just fine.

How does this clock set itself?

Smart set in this clock only means it changes the time for DST. It doesn't set itself if the time is inaccurate. It just runs on a backup battery the same as most digital clocks do when the power is off or it is unplugged. It looks like it is setting because the digits appear to be changing but as with most clocks if the time is not right when it is unplugged it won't correct itself when it is plugged back in. It will have the same time variations as all clocks but atomic clocks and WIFI clocks actually set themselves every day so they correct themselves. Smart set clocks don't have this feature so you may need to set them occasionally. If you want to verify this set the time so it is wrong. then unplug it. Plug it back in to see if it corrects itself. An auto set clock will get the time from a radio signal or wifi signal to reset to the correct time in a few minutes.
