My boyfriend is an aspiring tattoo artist and struggles to find ways to practice that are similar enough to the objective medium. He takes a lot of pride in his work, and it gives them a lot of anxiety “practicing on people” so these are a great way for him to gain some confidence to do what he loves.

This is a very substantial offering of fake, or "practice" tattoo skin. As the name implies, it is perfectly suited for practicing and learning tattooing. I'm not certain, but my guess is that this would help someone wishing to learn body-piercing, as well.My own foray into tattooing began about 45 years back, as an art student. I did it as a hobby, and was never a pro. Keep that in mind when reading this review.The practice skin is not unlike others that I have seen and used. It's one difference right off the bat is that it is very pink. I have seen other practice skins that tended to be less so, some with a slightly whitish, or slightly yellowish tint.The texture is very good, as is the thickness. It's extremely pliable and flexible, and you can lay this over someone's arm or leg (for instance) to get a realistic feel as to how tattooing a person might feel. Make no mistake, it is still FAKE skin, and it will never give a true sense of the many different types of actual skin you will encounter when tattooing. Some skins are tougher than others, while other skins bleed profusely. This skin will not replicate the type of actual skin that does bleed profusely. Only working on actual skin will.Back when I was learning to tattoo (if I can recall correctly) fake, or practice skin was just beginning to become more widely available... but it was truly terrible. The technology was lacking, consistency was nothing like human skin, and working on it was a joke. This is far better.In fact, I spent endless hours tattooing every piece of citrus fruit I could find, from oranges and grapefruits, to tiny lemons and limes. Other people I know were practicing with pig's skin, which I believe was the closest thing to working on real, live humans. Note that pig skins don't cry, or pass out.I was impressed in the fact that this set of practice skins came with 15 pieces, more than most others offer, which is 10. It is a few dollars more expensive, but (in my humble opinion) worth the extra cost. Additionally, this is dual-sided. Some others are not.One thing that should be noted is that there are other practice skin sets that come with velcro straps to secure to someone's arm, and slots punched in the four corners to accommodate those straps. I think that would be helpful to a beginner. Just a suggestion to the retailer of this kit.I'm looking forward to doing a great deal of practicing. These 15 sheets, being dual-sided, will easily provide many, many hours of opportunity for perfecting your craft.I've posted a few pics along with this review. The last shows a sheet of practice skin from another manufacturer, showing a clear difference in skin tone. Nothing wrong with it, just a different skin tone. It's actually dual-sided, as well, but it is clearly thinner than this skin.By the way, why are these practice skins not available in skin tones for those with black and brown skin shades? Wouldn't that only make sense? I'm sure many tattooists would appreciate that sort of tool.Just sayin'...

Perfect to practice tattoo designs on, which is what I'm doing. I like that each sheet comes individually wrapped too. Would recommend.

I am just getting started with tattooing and know very little but skin seemed nice and was easy to practice on. It's double sided, just be sure adjust your needle or it will bleed through to the other side.
