Koplow Games Red Special Who Knew 6 Dice Set

Mirror-symmetric dice roll more fairly. 5 stars for good quality at a good price.
These are nice quality specialized dice. The plus of buying these is they use "mirror-symmetric" style d5/d7/d16 dice (d5 is 1-5 twice, d7 is 1-7 twice, d16 = 1-8/9-16). These are going to roll more fair than something that was a sphere with some points distributed around the surface to mark where to make faces. If you google "geometry of weird-shaped dice" you'll see a whole discussion and a roll test to help explain the concept. Only thing lacking from this set for DCC is a D14, but either use your D7 with a control die or use your D16 and re-roll as necessary. 5 stars for good quality at a good price. ps: The cat identified as "Inspector 3" sent me the correct item - good job kitty!

Here are those OTHER dice your bag is missing
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. With the whimsical name of "Who Knew?", these dice by Koplow supply the odd-sided dice you sometimes need when participating in role playing games. For example, when you are taking damage from a Magic Missile and need to score 1-3 points of damage. Sure, you can roll a standard d6 and divide by two, but where's the fun in that?In this set you get effective d3, d5 and d7 dice as well as true d16, d24 and d30 dice. The d3, d5 and d7 are actually d6, d10 and d14 dice with the numbers repeated. (I.E.: the d3 is a d6 with the values 1, 2 & 3 repeated.) This is very much like doing the division by two on standard dice without all that messy math. The d6 is a standard 16mm die, while the remaining dice are over-sized. The d30, in particular, is a jumbo die with a whopping 34mm diameter. The dice I received were all of excellent quality with no apparent flaws and very clean paint work. The numbers are large and very readable, even on the d24 and d30. The red plastic with white paint matches other dice in Koplow's opaque red sets.As you can see in the video, the d5, d7 and d16 are tapezohedrons (spindles) with kite-shaped faces. The d24 is a tetrakis hexohedron, (that was the technical term I couldn't recall when making the video), which is the more typical d24 form. (The other being a deltoidal icositetrahedron.)While not entirely necessary, these dice are a good way to round out your RPG dice set. The shapes aren't as interesting as some of the Zocchi dice made by GameScience, but these are also not out of print nor nearly as expensive as the Zocchi alternatives.Note that while this review is specific to the Red Special Who Knew 6 Dice Set , I also purchased the green set, which is also briefly shown in the video. My comments here apply to both sets of "Who Knew?" dice that I purchased and are likely to apply to the other colors offered by Koplow as well.

A great set of dice for Dungeon Crawl Classics
I bought these for use with Dungeon Crawl Classics and they've been great. I like them MUCH better than the 'official' set that has since come out... these are better looking in my opinion, no weird shapes with numbers flowing around corners. Some folks don't like that these are a bit bigger than common RPG dice but I really like the chunky size on them. The D30 is substantial and dramatic when rolling it for DCC spell affects.I just wish they came is a wider variety of colors.

The quality was actually pretty poor.
Was not impressed with the quality. Returned as soon as I received it.

They will get the job done. Not crazy about ...
They will get the job done. Not crazy about the shapess of the 5, 7 and 16. But if you don't want to buy a $25 set these work.
