The Bible for Poodle Grooming
We got our first poodle earlier this year and after taking her to the groomers several times and forking out $130.00 each visit, we realized it would be more economical to groom her ourselves. I’m also extremely OCD, and know no one will pay as much notice to detail to as I will. I joined several online poodle groups, watched a ton on YouTube videos and had more than a few people recommend this book, referring to it as the “Bible” of poodle grooming. I thought it was a small price to pay for a wealth of knowledge that covers just about everything one could want to know about poodle grooming. It is very detailed, as it does cover grooming both for the show ring and for the pet poodle. It has a combination of both pictures and illustrations/ diagrams (all black and white) and discusses all the equipment in depth. I highly recommend this book and refer to it often when grooming and have it all marked up and tagged just like a text book. This is a book you will buy and keep forever.

Well written, informative, helpful
Growing up we owned shorthaired mutts that required minimal upkeep. They walked around the yard like they were lost and slept on the back porch the rest of the time. We probably washed them twice a year. We could go on vacation for a few weeks and they would be fine as long as they had food and water. My dad didn't allow dogs in the house and didn't like spending money on them, so owning a dog like a poodle was simply out of the question.Years later I decided I wanted to get a smart house dog. So I did some research and decided on a poodle mainly because of its intelligence and non-shedding ability. I made the right choice - but of course - didn't know anything about grooming- something all poodle owners should have knowledge of even if they don't do the grooming themselves because a poodle is a totally different breed of dog.My poodle's not a show dog nor could he ever be one, but I don't want him for that anyway. I don't have any interest in some things in this book such as the special cuts section. However, I still found this grooming book to be very informative and helpful. It's an easy read and very detailed in every aspect of grooming. The pictures are black & white but that doesn't matter much because the book is intended to educate - not entertain. The book starts by giving a brief background on poodle origin and then goes into the different kinds of cuts and their origins. It then teaches three primary skills: the methods of grooming and the selection and use of the proper tools for grooming. There are plenty of pictures to help you along the way.Another thing the book teaches is that properly grooming a poodle is not just washing and cutting hair. I noticed once that my dog was scooting around on his butt a lot as though it itched. I took a look and noticed that one side of his anus looked a little swollen. I then remembered reading in this book about how the anal glands occasionally need to be squeezed or they can become infected. So I followed the procedure for this in the book and it worked. It probably would have cost me three or four times the price of this book to have a vet do it.I bought an electric clipper and some other grooming tools the book recommends and groomed my dog a few times, but to be honest I don't care much for grooming. I now take him to be groomed about once a month for around $50. Sometimes I have to take him back to the groomer because he or she doesn't do things properly or skips doing things - like pulling the hair out of the ears, which if not done can lead to infection in poodles. I bet you can guess how I know about these things. Don't hesitate buying this book since there is a wealth of information in it that is critical not only to grooming but also to the basic health of your poodle.

Very good book for poodle grooming
After much research I bought this book to start at home grooming my two poodles as the price of clipper and tools becomes break even after only four grooms. Very helpful. Read several times about equipment and the basic poodle cut and exactly how the author does it. In addition I watched about ten you tube videos and read a lot online. I am a do it yourself groomer, not professionally trained. This is what I learned. Be very careful and buy the cool care and spray your clippers every ten mins at least so sensitive dogs don't get a hot blade next to them. That is the number one issue. Blades must stay cool. Clipper heat up fast, real fast. Must use a cooling spray every 5 to 10 mins. Keep scissor work to a minimum, the clippers are safest. Save scissors for Pom Pom tail, head Pom and trimming ear length. That's what I learned. Never EVER point clipper into skin, be careful about this near arm pits, toes, privates and face. Start with blades that are for longer hair so you don't get too aggressive until you figure this out. Spend a lot of time handling your pets and playing with their feet on a regular basis so they will stand still for you. My dogs looked great, but this is quite an endeavor to take on. Must love your dogs to put this time in and spend the time to do it right and to be careful to not hurt them, otherwise go to a professional groomer.

Útil
O livro é bom. Mas não gostei das ilustrações serem em preto e branco. Habilitar tradução no app seria de grande ajuda

Informative but could use updating and refining.
Very detailed and informative book. But very dry and tiring to read which isn't unexpected. Appreciate an the helpful info provided and I'm sure it will come in handy when needed. It's thorough and professional, but a bit dated and many pictures are difficult to see (looks photocopied). Still recommend for those wanting to learn more about grooming poodles.

Fantastic guide!
I had the original and when I no longer had poodles I handed this down to another poodle owner. Now I'm a poodle owner again and decided to revisit the notes I had relied on for so long. Great book, had me grooming my furbabies with perfection.
