I then placed the rug in the desired location. This generally works for most area rugs. Maybe this will work for you. My rug lays flat. **Q: Can you wash this rug in the washing machine or is it spot clean only?** A: It’s way too thick and heavy for a machine. This is definitely not machine washable. I’ve added a video including the washing instructions from the back label. Basically vacuum/sweeper shake to remove dust. Hose off to clean. Blot spills ASAP, and rotate rug twice yearly. **Q: How do you get the rug to lay flat? any ideas? other have this issue?** A: I used it on my deck and that was never an issue. I do want to say that after just one season the rug began to fray.
