Pleasantly Surprised
STOTT PILATES: Armchair Pilates Plus Flex-Band This has been very useful. I am a large person with diabetes struggling with my weight. Most work out dvds do have the thing of "only do the parts that you can comfortably do" which far too often left me standing for long periods of time waiting for the parts I could do. This dvd was very do-able from the beginning to the end. It did not leave me huffing and puffing but I definitely could feel the work out. NOTE: It does NOT come with the work out stretch band. I used one that had come with my big excersize ball (that I no longer have room for in my livingroom...lol) Down side was it was a tube stretch band which popped out from under my toe and almost got me in the face. Have to get the wide flat type stretch band so that during the foot excersizes you can do the proper movements. I found they had the wide flat bands available in packs in the fitness section of the local fred meyers, and they had them that you could purchase by the foot at the local pharmacy that also carries medical supplies.

I was very disappointed that so much time was spent instructing how to put an exercise band together. The bands can be easily purchased and a reasonably priced, so I found this a waste of time. I purchased the DVD primarily because Moira Merrithew is the instructor, and wished I had liked it as much as other productions I have seen featuring her.

More of an informational video than a workout video
Even though Moira is an excellent instructor, this video is so short and there is so much talking that it should be added as a chapter to her Armchair Pilates Plus Flex-Band video and her Stott Pilates - Dynamic Armchair Pilates video. A combination with all three of these videos on 1 DVD would be a great value!

OK but requires some equipment.

chair exercise tape and weights
It's a really good tape. I plan to use it part time. I'm out of shape and disabled. The movements are I possible for me. I was happy when I found the hand weights on Amazon. They are nice and not too heavy.

Challenging without being too hard
I have fibromyalgia and this sort of gentle workout is great because it helps you to be active without being too stressful. I really feel stronger after doing it just a few times and know that if I keep at it, I could move on to more challenging Pilates workouts. The instructor is very good.

This DVD was very basic, for the total beginner. Wanted more material, more challenging stuff. If a person just does things at their comfort level, then progression will hardly be seen.

Very short
Workout includes how to attach handles [that they sell]….very little in way of workout. Very disappointed. Will not purchase these dvds in future.

Excellent program for someone who has to sit to do most of their exercises.
Clear, easy to follow, appropriately demanding exercises. There are a lot of upper body (arm, back) exercises, and some good core exercises. I like it.This is an excellent workout for chair compared to other DVD's I've tried. If your arms are not totally strong at first just go through the motions minus the weights to get a feel of limbing up regardless. . It is definitely challenging and simple to follow. The core Muscles get a good workout as well. The standing exercises are not demanding however enable gentle full stretching.DVD Contents58 exercisesWorkout Time – 40 minDVD Length – 79 minChaptersExercises: Breathing, Scapulae Isolations, Shoulder Circles, Horizontal Abduction, Shoulder Press (Unilateral, Unilateral Neck Flexion, Bilateral), Head Nod, Breast Stroke, Torso Rotation, Side Bend, Shoulder Abduction (Unilateral, Bilateral), Shoulder Flexion (Unilateral, Bilateral), Combo, Shoulder Rotation, Chest Press (Bilateral, Unilateral, Unilateral with Rotation), Bicep Curl (Bilateral, Unilateral, Leg Slides, Unilateral with Leg Slides), Overhead Press, Tricep Press, Overhead Throw, Side Stretch, Big Arm Circles (Bilateral, With Rotation, Bilateral, Bilateral with Rotation), Figure Eights, Ankle & Write Circles, Knee Lifts, Knee Lifts with Bend & Stretch, Chest Press with Flexion, Heel Lifts (Unilateral, Bilateral, Running), Toe Lifts (Unilateral, Bilateral), Seated Hip Extension (Unilateral, Bilateral), Breast Stroke Prep, Half Roll Back, Combo, Press Up to Standing, Standing Squat (Holding Weight, Ball of Foot on Weight, Heel of Foot on Weight), Walking Lunge, Standing Push Up, Standing Arm Work (Row, Tricep Extension, Shoulder Extension, Train), Spine Stretch Forward Sitting
