This works well for everyday outdoor use and is gentle enough that we feel comfortable using it on the whole family. The scent is noticeable but not overwhelming and fades fairly quickly. It has been effective for keeping bugs away during walks, yard time, and trips to the park, though like most natural sprays it does need to be reapplied after a while. We've had a TON of rain the past couple of weeks (a good thing), and we knew the "skeeters" would be out when we headed for the Swamp Fox Passage area yesterday afternoon. When we got to one of our favorite trails, swarms of mosquitos were waiting for us outside our car. We jumped out and quickly sprayed the Badger Balm all over from head to toe, and it was as if we had surrounded ourselves with an invisible shield. Although the pesky little critters buzzed around us, none of them landed and we were able to hike for two hours with only two bites each (which we got before we sprayed.) The product is made up of a blend of oils that is very pleasant smelling. I like that it is certified organic and pretty lasting for 3 hours. I used it on my toddler and myself. It can be quite oily but when spread around the skin, it is ok. There is no issue when I tried to spray while holding it upside down. Oil may leak and trickle down the sides of the bottle. A transparent cap comes together with the bottle helps to contain the mess. Overall, it is a pretty handy and good-sized bottle for bringing out or placing at our entryway.
