Do you use the breaks often, or can you do without the breaks? I'm doubting between the ones with the break and the ones without.

I do use at least one brake if I'm at my desk working on something. I slide away from my desk gradually if I don't. Also you can just nudged the one brake up when your ready to move again.

Will these fit Herman Miller Aeron?

According to their site, these are the correct stem for the Herman Miller Aeron. 7/16" by 7/8" grip ring stem fastener which is what these are. These move so much better than twin wheels and are so much quieter and softer. Great upgrade.

okay for exterior use ? (on a swimming pool reel)

I installed on rolling chair for garage and they work great on concrete with my 210 pounds. I also have a mechanical pool cover and I don’t see why they would not work if your cover is set up for that kind of coaster. These just pop in an exciting mount made for them (most stools or rolling chairs have these), you will need to see how they will install on your pool cover. They are tough and durable if you can install them.
