Advani was born in Mumbai. His her has a ceutical business and his mother is an advertising professional. He did his Masters in chemistry at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai.He worked under Dharma Productions which was the production house of the late Yash Johar, her of Karan Johar. He was assistant to Karan Johar and was assistant director. He assisted him in his two directorial projects, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.
