Raj and Simran are two young people who happen to be traveling through Europe at the same time. By coincidence, they meet, become good friends and of course, fall in love. They return home with stars in their eyes only to find out that Simran s father has already promised her hand in marriage to his best friend s son. Simran is forced to leave London and return to India with her family where she is thoroughly miserable until Raj comes to India to take back his  Dulhaniya. Does Raj succeed?Â...Â...Watch the movie. Yash Chopra has outdone himself with this movie. The music and songs will forever remain etched in one s memory, especially  Mehendi laga ke rakhna.. (a personal favorite) And of course, how can we forget the star jodi. This romantic drama is must have for all you Shahrukh and Kajol fans. Review: True love at it's finest - Whenever I think of a film that's considered to be a romantic classic, this movie always comes to mind! I watch DDLJ every now and again and I'm pleased to say that though I'm a slightly different person each time, my love and admiration only grows every time I see it. The main reason being that what irritates me about many other young love romantic movies (especially the 2000's American ones) is the immaturity consistency displayed between the main leads (especially the guys), but DDLJ never makes me feel that way. Though Raj loves his pranks and maybe child-like at times, he's always sincere, takes accountability for his actions, and never fails to apologize to Simran afterwards (even when they were strangers). Simran, on the other hand, is not your average rom-com girl who's desperate for love and willing to settle for less or even jaded and doesn't believe in love. She never backs down from what she sets out to do, has always allowed herself to dream, and though stubborn at times, is always willing to work things out. On a broader note, I can't get enough of the extremely honest acting, raw and vulnerable emotions, deep family and cultural sentiments, and the incredible chemistry not just between SRK and Kajol, but between all the main cast is simply phenomenal (personally adore the bond between Raj and his Pops!). I just LOVE the plethora of cute moments between the couple that seem so natural, the hilarious jokes in between the more serious moments, and the tear-jerking ending that never fails to remind me why this movie is ALWAYS worth the watch. Though it's been 30 years since this movie came out, the forever relatable themes of true love, sacrifice, and bravery beautifully portrayed in DDLJ are exactly why it's is considered by many, myself included, to be a timeless piece of art. All in all, If you're ever considering watching this movie, DO IT... because I promise, you won't regret it. P.S. - they just don't make them like Raj anymore! Review: Nearly Perfect Movie - slight error with the English subtitles on Eng sub DVD, BluRay is awesome - I have to say that watching this movie was an amazing introduction into Bollywood! It easily made its way into my Top 10 favorite movies of all time, and as an indie filmmaker, my list of favorites is huge! I hope that tells you something about the quality of the film - the performances, cinematography, script/storyline, editing, and score are almost flawless. This is one of those movies that made me laugh and cry more than once during the first and subsequent viewings. There's a reason why it has run for 800 consecutive weeks in India! If you're looking at buying this movie, I'll assume you know how awesome it is and/or have read other reviews, so I'll just add a comment on the DVD itself. I bought the one that said it had English subtitles, not knowing whether or not the original had any. I did not know at the time DDLJ is on Blu-Ray, or I would have just ordered that instead. The video quality was acceptable, although I would have liked to see such a famous film remastered. The DVD menu is animated and cute. There is an option just to play the songs, which is nice, as sometimes that's enough to relive the experience without watching all three hours of it again. The one problem I would note is that the subtitles disappear during the scene where she breaks her fast for the Karwa Chauth (right when they are putting the candles in the water). The titles do return a few minutes later, but I do wish that wasn't a problem. The movie's great, though, so I have to give it five stars anyway. My love for it trumps any technical glitches. But bottom line - if you like the movie enough to consider a purchase, just go ahead get it on Blu-Ray. That's what I'm going to do now. :) [EDIT] We did wind up buying the BluRay version, and I can't tell you how blown away I was by the difference in quality. You still have the occasional interlacing that you may notice at times, but the clarity of and the details you can see in the video are amazing, and the color pops with intensity! It's really, really a much better quality product than the regular DVD, and completely worth it if you love the movie. My one complaint, I guess, is the quality of the bonus DVD that came with it. The special features are not BluRay - they are only standard definition DVD. And there are no subtitle options. True, they speak in English about half of the time, but I'd really like to know what they're saying for the rest of it, too. So if you get this one, buy it for the quality of the movie and not the bonus features. Otherwise, I thought it was great, and I feel good about this purchase, even after having the other version already. It actually made me appreciate the BluRay more...

A Classic Love Story that Says Something
I first watched this movie in my senior year of high school 5 years ago, and everytime I watch I am captivated. I am a Black American girl, and seeing a romantic comedy not made in a western lens truly opened my world to different kind of storytelling, and to a conversation on culture and tradition vs. change and adaptation. The charm of the leads in this story cannot be exaggerated! Kajol's spunk, earnestness and beauty in her portrayal of Simran, and SRK's charm, physical humor and romance is unmatched in any other movie I've seen. The flow of the plot never makes you bored even with the long run time, and the length truly makes you become invested in the characters, their love and where they will end up. And if that's not enough, the visuals are BEAUTIFUL. I'm not sure what kind of cameras they use in India, but the colors seem more saturated and vibrant and draw you into the wonder of the character's journey. The music is amazing, I listen to at least one song each week, because they are always in my head! Do yourself a favor, and watch this film. It definitely lived up to the legend for me.

A Great Film for our Bollywood Collection!
It all began a few years ago, when we accidentally watched Veer & Zaara, and it hasn't stopped since. We are wild for Hindi movies! There are no better family nights then sitting together and watching a 3-hour Bollywood film, and like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, most of them star our favorite Hindi actor Shah Rukh Khan! Like Veer and Zaara, but an earlier film, this movie is about the accidental meeting of a young Indian couple that was not meant to be as she had already been promised by her father to the son of friend. Because there is no sexual contact in Hindi films, these movies are always safe bets for younger children, and our tween daughter is obsessed with Hindi films now. In this movie, Shah Rukh Khan has little time to win the approval of his new lovers hard-nosed and controlling father, never mind getting him to retract the arrangement he has made for his daughter to marry his friends son. But Shah Rukh Khan goes to extreme lengths to win over her family, because he wants to marry her with her fathers approval, instead of just eloping. There's great music, beautiful costumes and fantastic scenery, all typical of Hindi movies. There's tension and romance and in this film, there's even comedy. Dilwale Dulhanie Le Jayenge wins a place of honor in our Hindi movie collection!

Funny, Sweet, Serious--and a Must Watch!
Simran (Kajol) lives in London and is betrothed to the son of her father's best friend in Punjab. The summer before she is to be married, she takes a European rail vacation with friends, and meets Raj (Shah Rukh Khan). They don't realize that they have fallen in love until they have parted. Raj then follows Simran to India, determined to win her father's approval for their marriage. In this romantic comedy/drama, family values and respect for elders is placed in high regard, even while portraying that the most hardened of hearts must be softened in the face of true love. Both Kajol and Khan are excellent in their roles, maturing their characters perfectly. The supporting cast is stellar. While there is no breath-taking choreography, the songs are lovely and memorable. The costumes, cinematography, locations, and sets are all beautifully done. Overall, this is a funny, sweet, and serious movie that is a must-watch for any Bollywood fan.

Who knew?
That Indian romance could be so good? Winner of 11 film awards and a classic of Bollywood, I had never heard of this film(translated, The Brave Heart will Take the Bride) and stumbled across it by accident on Netflix, getting it on a whim. What a joyous discovery. While prevented from overlong song sequences and a more than a small dose of sheer goofiness from being another Romeo and Juliet or Pride and Prejudice, this is an intensely romantic, delightful, and well-made concoction, starring in what was to become their most famous role a couple who are apparently famous in Bollywood film, Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, known informally as Srk-Kajol. The two have almost painfully intense chemistry at times, and this, along with Shahrukh's character, the bafflingly annoying and yet intensely charismatic Raj, lights up the film. The first half is taken up by their initial meeting, which leads Simran, Kajol's character, to instantly hate him, and by a series of circumstances that throws them together. What I particularly liked about this film is it's so wildly unpredictable, not merely for the colorful Indian melodrama and singing/dancing scenes the characters were likely to spring into at any moment but also because rather than taking the traditional route of romantic comedies the producers instead trace a delicately nuanced, hilarious, and often painfully realistic path for the passion that springs up between the two, and for the fact that it is not during those initial scenes of being thrown together(so requisite for any romance) that they really fall in love but later on, when they part. An odd mix of wit, comedy, melodrama, and genuine feeling in the first half, I was already in love with it, but the turn to utterly convincing passion in the second, as the lovers struggle with her family and tradition, completely took my breath away. I give only one example - Raj finally comes to find Simran at her family's home, and finds her in a field of golden wheat outside her family's home, where she has been drawn by the haunting music of his banjo, which she thinks is yet another dream. The moment when she sees him and runs to him is one of the single most classic scenes I have ever seen onscreen. And not only women will enjoy this romance - Raj, as a womanizing, shameless, overconfident, ever-witty and tricky(even, and most especially, to Simran) wealthy Indian expatriate, is someone that every man can identify with and in fact envy(as I learned to my cost while watching it). The two main flaws this movie does possess - which keep it from being a true romantic classic - is, as I said before, over-the-top music sequences and its healthy splurge of goofiness. But with the longest-running initial release in Indian history, this movie had to have something good. And indeed it does. It glows.

Sensational Movie
This is the only Bollywood movie I own. I watched it first on NetFlix and then immediately ordered it. It is a romantic comedy. The lead actress is hot and the guy is so funny. It runs for 3 hours but that went by in a flash. The chemistry between the two leads is undeniable. I loved the comedy and I loved the music and dancing. There were many dreamy sequences in the mountains of Switzerland that were outstanding as well. The Blu-ray does not have English audio for the movie itself but does have English sub-titles. About 80% of the bonus material is spoken in English. The image quality of this Blu-ray is excellent.

The Ultimate SRK
I bought this set to relive the 90s and 2000s magic, and it did not disappoint. From DDLJ and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Chak De! India, it has all the essentials. Content: Having all these iconic films in one pack is so convenient. It’s perfect for weekend marathons. Format: The NTSC format works perfectly on my DVD player. The audio quality for the songs—which are the heart of these movies—is very clear. Value: The price is unbeatable. It’s much better than paying for multiple individual streaming subscriptions if you just want to own the classics. Pros: * Great value for money. Authentic original prints. Makes for an amazing gift for any Bollywood lover. Cons: * The box is a bit cheese with plastic, so you’ll need some shelf space! Verdict: If you love Rahul or Raj, just go for it. You won't regret it.

Intemporel

Excelente compra
