Superman: Action Comics: The Rebirth Deluxe Edition Book 1 (Rebirth)

This is just a great book. Perhaps it was my lowered expectations due to most people telling me the book was just nonstop punching, but I thought it was great. Very well-written, FANTASTIC art, and some great mysteries to be told. What are Superlex's intentions? Who is this new random Clark Kent? What's going on with this scythe-wielding guy watching everything like a show? There is a lot of action (it's called Action Comics, after all), but it's not only action. There's some great family dynamics and some great non-action stuff going on period. I truly enjoyed it. Onto the production quality of the first Rebirth deluxe, as I'm sure many are curious about. I am very happy with this. Firstly, there is a beautiful wraparound art piece on the cover boards under the dust jacket. Historically, a lot of DC deluxe editions have boring plain black cardboard cover boards, so this was very promising to see. Secondly, the book uses the standard Rebirth trade dress, so we won't be getting different looking spines on every single title like we normally see from DC oversized hardcovers. Thirdly, it has a great sewn binding. The book opens very flat and it feels strong, with absolutely zero gutter loss. The only negative is the paper quality, which is on the thin side. It's slightly thicker than Marvel omnis/oversized hardcovers, and it's glossy, but it's just not great. Overall, this is a VERY promising first effort in this new DC initiative that I'm super happy about. I've long wanted DC want to go the Marvel route of having OHCs for a lot of their ongoings, but I never thought I'd actually see them doing it! Looking forward to getting The Flash next (skipping Justice League).

Best Superman Action Comic from DC Rebirth read ever!

I gave up on Superman and DC years ago. Their books didn't seem to match the characters I enjoyed reading in years past. I can always find a comic from the 80s at a con, spend a buck and have a better experience. That said, I've always enjoyed Dan Jurgens' work on Superman and on a lark, I bought a recent issue of Action Comics. Did not expect to read a book that would hook me and remind me of why I love comics. So I purchased the Action Comics Rebirth hardcover. I wasn't disappointed. The story was solid superhero stuff, good characterization, and didn't suffer from today's overwrought, snails paced storytelling. Jurgens gets Superman. He knows why the character has been popular for 80 years. He's not "Angry Superman" with glowing eyes, or "Space Messiah Superman" from the terrible DC movies. The art is solid as well. Finally, there's a Superman worth reading. Now if we could just get the red trunks back.

A really great Superman story. Really action packed and the story also has some mystery elements as Superman tries to find out who the other Clark Kent is. The fist arc of this story is super action packed with Superman taking on Doomsday. This fight literally takes up the first five issues of this book and it is just a fun read and it's great to watch this fight playout. In my opinion, this first arc is way better than the Doomsday fight we got to see in Batman V Superman. If your looking for something to redeem Doomsday and the fight scene in that movie, this book is for you and that is only the first five issues of this book. Product also arrived right on time!

This is another phenomenal effort in the DC Rebirth Deluxe line up. The over-sized pages bring everything to life in spectacular fashion. The art is top notch, the pages glossy and rich with color, the hardcover and binding are flawless. I wish every graphic novel had this level of quality!

This review will be for all three of the AC Rebirth run by Dan Jurgens instead of writing three separate reviews. And each one of them is great, perfect condition. Securely wrapped. Came when it was supposed too. It was nostalgia for me flipping through each volume since this was the era I bought and read not just Superman, but comics in general.

A fresh start to the action comic series.

I have returned to comics after many years away from them, many thanks to the digital medium and my kindle fire. It would also seem that the Superman whom I read about all those years ago is back as well. Superman for me has always been a "meh" hero, with al those powers, how can there be so many underwhelming stories?? In contrast with Batman who has no super powers, yet some great stories behind him. The DC rebirth seems to be, to date, remedying this, by taking, what I believe to have been, a very underwhelming run in the "New 52" period, and bumping him off in favour of the Post Crisis Superman!! But what does that actually mean? Well, this is an older Superman, with a family. He's married to Lois (as it should be) and he has a son, who is starting to develop powers of his own; this is all introduced effectively in the second issue of this collection. At the start of this story, the "New 52" Superman is dead, and the older Superman is living out a normal life with his family, hiding his powers except in extreme circumstances, and in the first issue of this book we see Lex Luthor is taking it upon himself to assume the role of Metropolis' savour, via a nifty suit of armour and the dead Supermans cape. It is this Super Lex that brings Superman into the public eye, arriving to challenge Lex in front of a crowd after Lex has foiled a bank robbery and hostage situation. Obviously everyone has questions, the public knowing Superman to be dead, and this is confused furthermore by the appearance of a seemingly unpowered Clark Kent, arriving to cover the story for the Planet. After a short tussle between Superman and Lex, the real bad guy appears (really no surprise who, if you've seen the cover of the book) and a truce is formed to battle the villain. Ok, so that might seem like too much info, but that is a brief summery of the first two issues. It's quite a start, the book has enough to cater to all needs, plenty of action, strong characters, and, as you get into the second arc especially, some strong storytelling. There are questions gallore, for both characters in the book, and the reader, and to top that all off, the artwork is of a high standard too. I will certainly be picking up future volumes from this series, and highly recommend this to all! This book has fuelled my return to comics (Yay).

Nice sequel to superman storyline of new 52 ...liked the Lex Luthor and new Clark Kent as well as very own Superman and Lois Lane return with Darkseid.. wonder woman as well as Superman's son were nice...nice story and artwork...Thanks DC..Thanks Amazon
