Clicking Sound As Your Drum Rotates? Fit Some Of These Now!
My Bosch washing machine had been making a ticking/clicking sound when the drum was rotating, particularly during rinse or spin cycles. I had determined that the sound was coming from the support springs at the top or the legs at the bottom of the drum. Having greased up the parts I could see, and being satisfied that there were no other faults with the machine, I left it at that and continued to use it for a couple of years. The ticking/clicking hardly faded but it didn’t increase either. Then………One day whilst the washer was working, I could hear a colossally loud rhythmic banging sound. I immediately checked the washing machine and I could see that the drum was not stable. It was clear from my initial checks that either the bearings or one of the spiders must have failed.I stripped the machine down and discovered that all three spiders were fractured yet the bearings seemed fine. The additional damage, caused by the fracturing of the spiders of the drum, included scoring and some pinhead sized holes worn into the front section of the watertight tub plus damage to the heating element where the loose drum had been impacting it. All three items ie drum, tub front and heating element needed to be replaced and whilst replacing them, it was also prudent to replace the bearings. I therefore ordered those parts and a new seal with which to make the tub watertight.Once I had the entire drum and tub out, I could clearly see that there was no damping effect in either of the two supporting telescopic legs and it was then obvious that the clicking/ticking sound had been as a result of the lack of damping. Then I realised why the drum spindles became damaged, it was because the tub was rocking about without the damping resistance that the telescopic legs were supposed to provide.I removed the lower section of each leg and fitted these replacements, which were simple to fit (albeit that I needed to partially tip the machine over on its side). Just a flat bladed screwdriver and a spanner or socket is needed. The flat bladed spanner is used merely to lift a small tab on the upper portion of the leg near to where the lower portion inserts. The tab’s purpose is to stop the lower portion leg sliding completely out of the top portion, pretty much as a stopper. However, in truth, once the bases of the legs are affixed to the washing machine base, the tabs aren’t really needed, as they cannot fall out as both the top and bottom sections of each telescopic leg are affixed to the tub and the base.It took some time and effort to make all of the repairs and fit everything, it wasn’t cheap either, unless comparing it to a machine of a similar quality, but the BIGGEST thing I took from the events was that I could have avoided all of the damage and repair costs by just replacing these plastic legs as soon as they started to make the clicking/ticking sound. Lesson learned!I now have a washing machine that is as good as new and it is ever so quiet. I will change the legs again in a few years and make it part of the machines routine maintenance. It will be very cost effective.

Direct replacement for the OE items
After seeing multiple different replacement units available, included some which required the drum to be disassembled or drilled out costing over £50. I saw that these were the actual part that was used by BoschThe process to change was as easy as1. Disconnect from mains power, isolate water supply and drain washer sump2. Rock washer on its side (pic 4)3. Remove 13mm bolt at bottom of washer frame (need two spanners) - Pic 24. locate and bend out lock tab from alloy casing that this part slides into. - pic 35. Pull out old damper leg6. Fit friction pads and smear light coating of grease on pad and inside lip of case.7. Squeeze leading edge of pads together and insert into case ensuring pads stay in place.8. Refit Bolt to secure new leg to washer frame.9. Push lock tab back.10 Repeat for the other side.n.b DO NOT unbolt both sides at the same time as this will allow the drum to drop, damaging the springs and make it extremely difficult to refit. As you can see from the 1st picture, the old friction pads had almost completely worn away. Now the washer is much quieter and doesn't try to walk across the floor!

Fitted well. Just like original.
Great part for Bosch machine….turns out the machine also has a cracked spider and needed replacement but those dampers did the job!
