Having worn out a pair of Cole Haan split-toe oxfords over the course of four years, I decided to step up and order a pair of Allen Edmonds per the recommendation of fashion-savvy friends and colleagues. These have not disappointed over the past three months of use.Although I was hesitant to shell out over $200 on a pair of dress shoes, you truly do get what you pay for with the FIfth Avenue Cap Toes. The shoe is constructed extremely well with high-grade materials. As with any fine shoe, they require breaking in but after about half a dozen wears, they start adapting to the size and movement of your foot and are quite comfortable as far as dress shoes go. The shoes also fit true to size.Stylistically, I appreciate the pattern across the toe. It provides a subtle fashion contrast to the more staid simple line across the toe of standard cap toe shoes. Of course, that's a matter of personal taste.Overall, I am extremely happy with the purchase. The value of the extra $100 you spend for a pair of Allen Edmonds over a similarly styled shoe will likely come to bear later on in the shoe's life as the construction is superior and the quality evident. Of course, if that does not turn out to be the case, I'll be sure to update the review!

This shoe fits me like a glove. The first day I wore them, yesterday, I did not want to take them off...and didn't. Material and construction are excellent. The leather is butter soft. There was no break in period, just lace up and walk. And god, they are beautiful.I have 5 other pairs of AE shoes and have found that fit is highly dependent upon the last. Just because this pair of size 13 B 5th Ave. captoes fit like a glove is no predictor that AEs constructed on different lasts will fit as well.Similarly, quality of materials and construction varies with the style. Overall, AEs are very high quality, but I have pair of monkstraps made with very thick leather and soles that refuse to flex.And I continue to buy AEs because south of $500 a pair, there are no better shoes made in the US.

Like most of the other reviewers of Allen Edmond shoes, I found this pair of shoes to be stylish and well-made. i have a narrow foot, so I am somewhat limited in my choices, but this narrow (B width) shoe fits well. One thing I disagree on with most of the other reviewers, is thatthe shoes are not comfortable right out of the box. They need a break-in period like a lot of brands of shoes.

AE lacks quality. The leather feels low quality and starts showing wear very fast. I have several AEs as well as Mephistos, and the Mephistos look new after 2 years of use and the AEs start showing age in the first 3-4 months.The leather feels rough, and dry and washed out. I wouldn't buy AE any more.

I own a couple of Italian-made dress shoes like Salvatore Ferragamo and Santoni, as well as the Swiss-made Bally, because I find their material to be of top notch quality, having very fine craftsmanship, and are extremely comfortable to wear despite being leather-soled. I chanced upon Allen Edmonds one day and tried on a pair despite it being "Made in USA" and was surprised that it also met the three criteria that I mentioned. The best part is that it costs only about half of the European brands!Their characteristic may be different- Salvatore, Santoni, and Bally have a sleek appearance, while AE is brute-looking - but this is expected as they come from different continents and heritage. Think of European sports cars versus American muscle cars and you will better understand what I mean.The styles available in the retail store that I went to were not within my preference so I searched at Amazon and found one to my liking - Fifth Avenue Cap Toe. I've been wearing this pair everyday to work (I'm a private banker by profession) for the past two weeks and I'm extremely pleased with the quality and comfort. So much so that I intend to buy another pair soon - of different style and color.

Okay, I'm sick and tired of shoddy imports served up at high prices. If I'm going to pay for quality, it's going to be American made quality and this dress shoe from Allen Edmonds fits the bill. These people still know and respect their products and their customers. The quality is every bit what I expected to receive and the fit is perfect. They offer a very wide selection of sizes, so you don't need to "get close and break them in." The quality is so readily visible that it actually enhances the look of a great suit of clothes. Go on,spend a few bucks and get the best. American workers deserve our support and they are getting it from me. They should get it from you too.

The modest Allen Edmonds shoe box hides quite a bounty. These shoes are beautiful to look at and appear to be made of quality materials and have excellent craftsmanship. Not to mention, they're made in the US! Go a little wider than you normally wear, as they come a bit narrow.

Me gusto la calidad con que esta esta hecho, es comodo y se adaptó a mis necesidades, lo que no me gustó es que descuidaron las protecciones que debe tener al momento de enviar por paqueteria, faltó una bolsa para el otro zapato y no viene bien envuelto, como se aprecian en unos videos unboxings en youtube.

Three separate pairs had issues with the welt, spattered dye, and so forth. Don't waste your time.

some people may like the narrow cut. but i loved the medium which i bought before. great leather shoe anyway

Minor scuffs and discoloration. Looks like a returned pair of "1st" rather than a "second". A bargain, considering the discount price.Pleased with the purchase
