This works with battery? Or has to be connected by cable to power??

It only works when plugged into power. If you would like the mode with battery, please search ‘TRILINK phone cooler X29“on Amazon's home page. Hope this helps.

Can you place this over a thin plastic phone case or does it have to be directly attached to the phone?

We suggest you o take off the case during usage for a better cooling effect, anyhow you can place a thin plastic phone case. Hope it helps
