Dangerous
This soldering iron has no temperature control and dramatically overheats making it practically unusable. I am expecting it to burst into flames or stop working any second.. The design is poor making it very difficult to lay down safely whilst it heats up. It comes with a small piece of poor quality sheet metal which you are expected to bend into shape to provide a stand. It is not sturdy enough to hold the soldering iron safely. As others have said I would not trust it in a coiled spring holder because the handle gets so hot. This item fits under the category “Buy cheap, Buy twice”. Absolute rubbish and a definite safety hazard.

Weller soldering iron.
Powerful enough for most electronics tasks. Useful light illuminates the work. The first one only lasted one session. Amazon replaced without quibble. It may be that a thermostat would improve this product’s reliability.

Utter Garbage
Has absolutely no self regulation. Gets ballistically hot and then burns itself to death. Mine died after the third usage. Only owned it for two months. Weller are supposedly a reputable brand but this just seems like generic Chinese tat as usual. Very disappointing.

Failed after 10 minutes of use
I wanted to switch the caps on my original Xbox and decided that this should do the job to melt the solder, not only did it not melt the solder but the whole thing stopped working after 10 minutes. At first it did seem to be getting hot but then it didn't seem to be doing anything on the board, so much so that the supposed hot iron was only just about warm to the touch (I did try other things first just in case) once I had given up trying to work out why it wouldn't melt the solder. absolute scrap.

Broke after first 5 mins
I ordered this soldering iron just over 3 months ago but have just used it for the first time. It started off just fine but the iron continued to get hotter and hotter until it glowed cherry red and blew the trip switch for all my sockets + the fuse in the plug. After resetting/replacing the fuses, the iron wont now heat up. Annoyingly it now appears to be passed Amazon's return date and so far no reply from the manufacture. Complete waste of money.
