- SynWax, Special FX Modeling Wax - 1.5 oz

So I have been reading tons of bad reviews on this product and although I had a rough first go with it, after learning how to use it correctly I have fallen in love. The reason I say it's easy to use is because once you learn the process, it really is easy to use.1. When the wax comes, it will be very hard. You need something metal to get the wax out - I would highly reccomend spending the few dollars for a set of steel spatulas because not only is it helpful to get the wax out of the container with, you sort of need them to apply the wax and blend it onto your skin.2. To soften the wax up, warm it up by holding it in your hands and kneading it. It will take some time, and it'll be very sticky but once you're done warming it up, vaseline will help with the application. Knead it with the bottom of your hands until it's very pliable and do your best to knead all of those little hard pieces in it. If you miss some, that's what the steel spatulas help with when you're blending it onto your skin.3. YOU NEED VASELINE TO APPLY THE WAX. The wax will be very sticky. I reccomend shaping the wax how you want it before using any vaseline just so that it sticks to your skin. Then use your fingers to blend the edges of the wax onto your skin. Then dip your steel spatula into some vaseline and blend away. I've posted pictures of the process.Give this product some time to grow on you! It can be a pain in the butt at first, but trust me there is nothing wrong with it. The wax is supposed to be really hard and pretty difficult to work with but so worth it when you get it figured out.

READ HOW TO USE IT. My goodness it's wax. Wax is hard. Like a candle. Do not stick it in the microwave. Have you stuck a candle in the microwave to re-mold it? Doesn't work that way. Use your body heat. I took the advice of others by using Vaseline on my fingers because it does get sticky. Also read to use mineral water to work on skin which I haven't done yet. Very happy with this product. Will buy a bigger one now that I'm used to working with it. Way less messier than latex, easy to remove.

I used synwax for a facial prosthetic for a recent costume (I attended NYCC 2013 and cosplayed as Irisa from the show/game Defiance; she is an alien with a very wide and flattened bridge of her nose) since I did not have the time to cast my face and make a custom silicone prosthetic. I ordered it on a Friday afternoon and had it at my house by the following Monday or Tuesday (and had great communication with the seller).There isn't much information on how to apply it; I found maybe a couple of videos on youtube that were helpful. I found it fairly easy to apply once I got it out of the container, which was a bit tricky since it's so sticky and hard; I found using a spoon to scoop/chip it out really worked great. Kneading it for a minute or so warms it up enough that it's nice and pliable. It's sticky enough that it would definitely stay on your skin, but I put some spirit gum on my nose and forehead to give the wax something to hold on to. The wax blends pretty easily and smoothly (vaseline will be your friend here) and worked great to cover my eyebrows. I also didn't need much to accomplish my task; I think the container has enough product for me to redo the piece 3-4 times. Removal wasn't too bad either. The package says mineral oil but I didn't have any, so I just scraped as much off with my fingers as I could, and then just scrubbed really well with makeup remover towels (you can find these at walmart or a pharmacy). It's a little tricky (especially in the eyebrows) and takes some time, but the towels WILL remove it all really well.The biggest con I found was that the stuff does retain your body heat, so it stays very pliable on your skin. Even with makeup over it, it became very shiny on my face, and my hair was constantly sticking to the edges of it. I felt like it was going to start softening too much and slide/melt down my face, though this never came close to actually happening. I wore the piece at comic con for approximately 8 or 9 hours in a very warm environment, so that was a contributing factor as well. I wonder if maybe applying a thin layer of liquid latex over the piece after it's been applied would have helped with the stickiness factor; I might try this and see how it goes.Overall I was pleased with the way the product worked and found it pretty easy to handle. I would have preferred a real prosthetic, but for those with limited resources this isn't a bad alternative at all. And it's not expensive, so I would say it's worth a shot!

I actually didn’t know what to expect when I bought this product but I found it hard to use and that could be due to my inexperience using wax. The wax is very hard and I don’t use it anymore because of the difficulty of smoothing it on. I would say use caution when purchasing this if you use it all the time it has to be a great product but if you’re like me and never used it, you may have difficulty also.

It’s really hard. So much so I accidentally broke one of my sculpting tools trying to get the wax out. So unfortunate…I will still try to use it because I spent money on this but I am a bit disappointed in this product.

I've used this a few times over the years and have always been happy with the results. You have to knead it to warm and soften it up for a few minutes but once you do that, it's easy to manipulate. I put a dab of Vaseline on my fingertip to be help me blend it in once I get the basic shape that I want. The kids always get a kick out of my makeup and it's so much fun to do. You can get really creative with it. Try it and you will have a blast!

Pics- just after applying, after the 12hr workday(when i took off the ears and beard thingy), and after I washed it off with dawn&water&micellar water.The colors barely rubbed off around my neck (where it was being constantly brushed by the turtleneck). My lips even stayed white (after eating a ridiculous amount of snacks and lunch). I did NOT reapply any makeup throughout the day!Wash off was easy, you can see a liiiiitle tint of the red on my face, but I was expecting to be a tomato all week atleast so I'm happy! 5stars all the way. All of the colors I used were this brand and type of makeup. I have never used this type of face color before so it was easy to use after a couple tries.Painting all of my face barely used any of the red! It goes a loooong way.

Good product. Use it like a lip pencil to prevent lipstick bleeding. It works. Just a tip I read somewhere.

Older ladies, this is brilliant for stopping lipstick bleed.First draw your lip liner on, then the SynWax around the outside of the liner.It's really thick and heavy, but if you decant a 1/2 teaspoon into a small container, warm it up (I use the hair dryer) then using a short bristle lip brush you can apply on to the skin where you don't want your lipstick to creep.Very reasonably priced and a small tub will last years!
