What a nicely packaged deluxe edition of this great album
Loved Alison Moyet since Yazoo days. These reissued deluxe editions of her albums are fantastic additions to my collection. Great packaging like little hardback books with lyrics, pictures, and notes about the album. Really nice!

who needs hoodoo? maybe you do!
This is the best of the first four Alison Moyet solo albums, from 1991. She really digs into her soul, blues and gospel chops here, and sounds more distinctive than she had on some of her over-produced 80s works. These songs are strongly emotional, including plaintive goodbyes, angry dismissals and everything in between for tortured, passionate relationships. Her voice is distinctive, with a wide range and a strong personal style that works for joy, anger or regret. I haven't yet explored disc 2, as I just bought the reissue today, but I'll update this review when I have. In the meantime, I feel confident that I started with the best, if not the best known, of the deluxe sets. This album has always held that "should have been a big hit" category for me, so it's nice to see it treated well.Update for CD2: Interesting assortment of live tracks (Alison is a natural stage performer, as I know from having seen her in Chicago in the West End) and remixes, and hers is a voice for dance tunes so the remixes are a lot of fun, especially the "Soft Mix" of "Back Where I Belong" and the three versions of the funky title track, "Hoodoo."

Good pop album
Good album. I don't think it's as good as some of her previous work but it still holds up reasonably well.

Slow Grower
Alison all grown up with intricate song structures and smoldering vocals! Not as immediate or full of radio hits like her previous albums but after a few listens has become a firm favourite

Hoodoo
After a four year absence Alison Moyet returned with Hoodoo that was a deliberate move away from the very produced commercial multi platinum albums Alf and Raindancing. Hoodoo marked Alison taking full artistic control of her outputs. The lyricism was as sharp as ever but the sound was rawer less produced and with a harder edge. The lead single It Won’t Be Long was nominated for a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal. Sadly the singles It Won’t Be Long, Wishing You Were Here and This House we’re not supported at radio which was a shame as Hoodoo is now recognised as a classic album.Wishing You Were Here with late great Kirsty McColl on backing vocals was a strong single and at another time would have been a huge hit. Similarly, This House the only single to break the Top 40 and widely recognised as a classic written by Alison was a firm favourite of the legendary late George Michael who had lost his lover to AIDS.The album boats a fine collaboration with members of the Fine Young Cannibals with Back Where I Belong. While My Right ARM is a nod to Alison’s former band Yazoo. The title track celebrates the dance sounds of the 90’s with a modern beat and was released as a single in the USA.Other highlights include the feminist anthem Rise, while Footsteps tries to redefine the listeners views of Alison as assign. The closing song titled Find Me a cod soul classic and finds Alison in fine voice. The deluxe edition includes the brilliant Come Back Home.Hoodoo was released to loud critical acclaim but was not supported by Sony Music. Hoodoo is now widely recognised as a classic album.

Alison e la voce
La riedizione altamente accurata si arricchisce di inediti, di brani non presenti nella versione originale. Disco indubbiamente imperdibile. Alison e' magica come sempre. 10 e lode

最初の曲Hoodooが大好きで通常盤はたまたま買った中古だったが今回のdeluxe盤のレア音源が欲しくて購入。買って正解、ファンなら必須のアイテム。と言ってもなかなか日本ではファンがいないですね。
