Soy, natto, chickpeas??** A: I wondered too because the picture showing the ingredients mysteriously cut off what type of menaquinone it is. I learned it contains menaquinone-4, aka mk-4, or menatetrenone. There was no info regarding its source. In fact, although the product description here fully explains its source of vitamin D3, it omits saying anything about their K2 source. I found this as odd as the ingredients picture, and it was only for this reason that I decided I'd better check. Menaquinone-7 (mk-7) is the long-chain version (menaquinone-4 is short-chain) and it's generally accepted as a superb source, often derived from fermented natto. Even though natto is made from soybeans, by the time mk-7 is synthesized from this, realistically, no soy remains. This is from an NCBI study: "The current study shows that MK-4 has a poor bioavailability at a nutritional level dose, whereas MK-7 is well absorbed and detectable in the blood at nutritional levels. " I am so surprised Seeking Health is not using mk-7. They're usually a trusted manufacturer for me, but not in this instance. Be sure to check the type of K2 in whatever supplement you get because there are also synthetic forms that should be avoided. Better than pills. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great value, great product *by on Reviewed in the United States 11 November 2020* I got this to replace a previous product with the inferior MK-7 a lot of brands use. While MK-7 has some benefits, it did not facilitate bone density improvements in randomized controlled trials and thus should not be marketed for such a thing. It has so far greatly improved my D3 levels and I feel the effects as I am violently sensitive to sunlight so I cannot get my D3 that way.Something to note: Upon researching, I found that vitamin D3 is a hormone, not vitamin, which is created when UVB radiation contacts the oil secreted on the skin. This is then reabsorbed into the body and circulated to the liver and kidneys for various conversions and uses. This makes me wonder, why do we swallow this? It's akin to drinking lotion to moisturize the skin! I did some personal trials, and found that my absorption and blood panels improved when I began using it topically on the backs of my hands, and it moisturized my skin at the same time. While I cannot say anything about the MK-4 vitamin K2 in blood panels (they don't test for it because they are stuck in the stone age of thinking vitamin K actually matters when K2 is superior in every way, according to updated research), I did find randomized control trials where K2 is, indeed, absorbed into the body. There is no data on what happens past that, but for me, absorption is sufficient to know it's not being wasted if not consumed.Overall amazing product, and this one I truly know does affect bone health if taken with a low-carb diet. Excessive carbohydrate blocks vitamin D creation and transport, as well as blocking multiple mineral type transport, which would conclusively lead to bone deterioration.
