I saw an online video that seemed to demonstrate that Singer brand needles work really well in a Singer brand heavy duty sewing machine. So I bought some to try out. The first time I tried one of these I got a lot of pounding and the machine seemed to be struggling to punch through a few layers of lightweight cotton duck. So I switched back to a Schmetz denim needle, which worked a lot better. I didn't bother to check if the other two Singer needles in the pack would perform any better. They looked about the same, so I assumed they'd perform about the same. My experience is anecdotal, so I don't want to knock off more than one star, but I'll just stick with Schmetz even if they aren't a perfect fit for the Singer machine. They fit and work well enough.

5* quality and dependability
I didn't know you needed different needles for different fabrics until I tried to sew leather and nylon webbing with a regular needle. After it snapped I looked up what kind to use and came across this one. Using this and heavy duty nylon thread I've been able to sew dog leashes, leather, and thick multi layer materials without it breaking. There's 3 in a pack but I'm still on the first one. I never bothered to switch back to a regular needle for lightweight fabric and it seems to work just fine without tearing it or leaving big holes.
