I'm an avid gardener and have all kinds of pocket knives. However, I bought this for my wife to use when she helps me in the garden. I was looking for something more fit for her to use when harvesting vegetables or occasional cutting twine or opening feed bags. This fits the bill perfectly and I've been a fan of Spear and Jackson for awhile.

I bought the Spear & Jackson 7946KEW Kew Gardens compact knife mainly for asparagus, because apparently at some point in adulthood you start owning specific tools for removing vegetables from the ground and pretending that is normal. It arrived quickly, feels really good quality, and is perfectly sized for garden jobs where a full-sized tool would feel like turning up to cut asparagus with a Japanese samurai sword. It is sharp, compact, sturdy, and excellent for harvesting asparagus with the quiet confidence of someone who has suddenly become very serious about seasonal produce. In fact, this little knife is so good that I ended up buying three more: one for my allotment shed, one for my mum who is an avid gardener, and one as a spare because I have the uncanny ability to put useful tools somewhere “safe” and then never see them again. It has become less of a compact knife and more of a tiny gardening essential I now apparently distribute to loved ones like horticultural party favours. The asparagus did not stand a chance. One minute it was enjoying life in the garden, the next it had met the business end of a very efficient little knife and was on its way to dinner. Would I buy it again? Absolutely. Five stars for quality, durability, and making me feel like an elite vegetable commando. This product is that good I would recommend it to anybody, whether they grow asparagus, own an allotment, or simply enjoy having a sharp little garden tool that makes them feel suspiciously professional.
