Embark on an astounding journey across 100,000 light-years to witness key moments in the history of the Milky Way.Using cutting-edge science, National Geographic constructs a 3-D state-of-the-art CGI model of our galaxy. Gaze into the heart of the Milky Way on the hunt for super-massive black holes. Witness as stars are born and die. Fly out and above the plane of our galaxy to understand its true shape and scour its dusty spiral arms for the possibility of life.

Who can see into the beginnings of the universe? Hubble looks so deeply into the universe it can see into the past!
Video compares the Galaxy to a city throughout. Excellent teaching model which enables viewers to grasp the different areas of the galaxy and why distinct. For example, explains that the earth is positioned half-way out from the center. If we were located father in, we would be bombarded with exploding stars, etc., etc., destroying us in no time.Another technique was showing the earth traveling to various sectors of the Milky Way. How would the sky look here? Why is the night so bright? Where do all these different colors come from?Great!Explains the uses of infrared, X-ray and others methods to see behind the clouds of dust and gas in space.Wonderfully done!Shows the Crab Nebula (beautiful) and what is behind it, and what it is doing. Connects the record of Chinese astronomy in 1054 of a new star, that was visible even in daylight. Now we observe as the Crab Nebula.Presents the process that result in heavy metals, silicon, sulfur, iron, gold, etc.. These are all framed from the death explosions of stars. These building blocks of our earth and our life, all are sent from supernovas.Wow!Highlights the ability of the Hubble space telescope. Can look so deeply into the universe it can see into the past! Can find images of the universe around 380,000 years after ‘our universe was created’ (In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth).Astounding!Around the last third of the video explains the recent understanding (assumption) of dark matter. Very well done. Clear, simple, persuasive and fascinating. Explains that the dark matter is really driving the arrangement and movement of the Milky Way.One percent of the universe is visible. What!Amazing. This video presents great visual images, colorful, vivid, striking, with clear explanations of what we are seeing.Includes excellent musical accompaniment. Violins, orchestral, created heartwarming connection. The blend of narrator (easily understood) and various scientists really aided understanding. My wife and I yearly return to this presentation.Enjoy it every time!

We live in an awesome universe.
I watched this video a few times before purchasing. I love it for the beauty that surrounds us and for the education it gives us. The science presented does a good job explaining the many things working in our universe. I enjoy it and learn something new every time I watch.

Mind-boggling
I wished it had better animation pf the universe. Frankly, a Disney production would help fathom infinity.

Absolutely Astounding!!
National Geo's dvd about the Milky Way is completely incredibe! The graphics are riveting and the classical music selections brilliantly add to the beauty and excitement of the topics, for instance, how stars are born. Besides being instructional, this is a dvd I could watch over and over again as it also helps me gain perspective out of the mundane to horrible affairs of everyday life and to be grateful for how Incredible this Universe and God is! I Am on the search for more dvds like this!

Outstanding Documentary!!
This is by far the best documentary out there I've seen that explains our cosmos and what we know up to date. The real images used for this are outstanding! Ive taken a few astronomy courses before and it just amazes me how much more we know now. This documentary not only explains our milky way galaxy in detail, but focuses on how the precision of modern astronomy allows researchers to understand how other galaxies fit into what we know as the visible cosmos.
