Long Shot: The Dice Game - 1-8 Players - Horse Racing Party Game

Out of the box, Long Shot looks great. The components are colorful, well-made, and the instructions make setup clear. We picked up the basics quickly, but it took a full game to really see where the strategy lives. Gameplay Feel Horse placement in the race can feel predictable and for us... leaders often stay in the lead. That said, the horses aren't the players... not exactly. All the other scoring elements keep the game exciting. Player positions on the scoreboard can shift from turn to turn. It can feel rough if the horses you tie your wealth to bursts out of the gate and then stalls out, but the extra layers of betting, multiple horse ownership, and "side actions" keep you in the game. Player Experience We have only played with two players so far, but the game supports a large group, and so I can't wait to try it with more players. It mixes strategy and luck nicely. Experienced players should go easy on newcomers, as knowing the less obvious plays can lead to big scoring gaps; however, after a game or two, anybody can pick up the finer points and hang with the hardcore folks. Accessible to anyone who can read TBH, but expect some of the strategy to go over anyone under maybe 13 or so. Components & Quality Everything feels solid and looks appealing. The game packs smaller than something like Downforce, which makes it an easy choice to bring along for travel. Bottom Line Fast to learn, satisfying to play, and packed with personality. It has earned a place among our regular go-to games, and I am looking forward to seeing how it plays at a full table.

Fits in the easy (easyish) to learn, but plenty of strategy for replay, and lots of variability. Good for big groups, but can also accommodate 2 or 3 players as well!

Love this little gem, love its whimsical art. Our group was laughing in tears and screaming at the tops of our lungs at the end of the game. Scales well, easy to explain, the text on the horse cards were a little small but someone could always help read it outloud so no serious issues there. Great family and party game!

Just got this game. Can’t stop playing it! I compare it to a mini Monopoly where you have to manage money and build strategy, but does not drag on and exciting. Typical game can last 25 to 35 min. I recommend watching some tutorials on YouTube that will explain how to play perfectly as there are a lot of moving parts to this game but really easy to learn nonetheless.

I had been searching for a multiplayer game that could include up to 8 players to bring out at Thanksgiving for adult siblings and their wives that would be easy to teach, fun, and not too long. So far, I’ve only played the game as a two player, but it shows HUGE promise , especially given its price point. Absolutely love the betting element to this game which adds something a little different than most board games that are currently out there. Also, the fact that the game is enjoyable with only 2 players, but can be played with up to eight proves that it deserves a spot in everyone’s game closet!

Great game for 2 or more players. You just never know how the race will turn out. Lots of laughs and decisions to make, with a little strategy worked in. It takes just a bit to get in flow with everything, but it's always a hit with our friends. You got a hunch? Bet a bunch! Let those horses run!

Game is great, but box came damaged.

Surprised how much I enjoyed this game as it's pretty simple. Nice wooden horses, good cards, etc. Game play is fun and fairly quick. I enjoy the solo mode and also just using the track and dice to do a simple racing game with young children as they love the pieces and look of the game.

Mir gefällt das Prinzip, durch Wetten auf Pferden zu gewinnen. Bis jetzt hat es jedem Spieler meiner Gruppe gefallen. Nach einem großen Brettspiel, kann dieses Spiel perfekt danach eine gute mentale Erholung bieten. Man muss nur richtig tippen ;)

Fun game solo and multiplayer. Easy to teach and play. Big thumbs up

So I have a problem. I have no vices apart from the need to aquire board games. Over the past twenty years I have bought about 200 games. I don't always keep them, but I have a collection big enough to ensure that no woman would ever consider dating me. Luckily I have a wife who puts up with my compulsion - although since being married I rarely buy a game these days. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I know board games. More than any human should if they want to be considered normal. Despite that, I think this is the first board game review I have put on Amazon. And the reason is that I think this may well be the perfect board game. For me, anyway. It fulfills my board game requirements. First of all, this game is simply a lot of fun. It's not a take-that game - but you do trip up other players. My step-daughter who is fourteen and asks me to play this game virtually every day, was placing lots of bets on a horse and using her actions to ensure it was getting extra movements - and I managed to buy the horse - ensuring that if she got it over the finish line in the top three, I would be handsomely rewarded for her hard work. We both laughed. The gotchas just don't sting. I also now look for games that are easy to pick up but have plenty of decision-making. This game does that so well. I played it with six players at a game night and everyone knew what they were doing very quickly. And all of them loved the game and wanted to play again. I said no of course because I despise every single one of them. Just joking - I was shattered and it was really late and I needed to get my step-daughter home before her mum smashed my face in. But I wanted to play again. And here's another thing. The game plays so well with 2, all the way up to 6 players. Get it if you like board games that have horses in them, and dice, and dry wipe pens, and cardboard, and cards, and a board, and a box to put it all in.
