Quirky, fun, light hybrid dance music

*by M***N on Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2014*

This is clearly a debut album, introducing an original, quirky, fun sound overcoming some mixed results... and yet the album has been on constant repeat in my playlist since it was released, and I appreciate it over many other current electronic albums for its creativity and lightheartedness.Consider the first track, Mozart's House, which was their first single (and feels like a first attempt). In this track the band seems to have forced the classical-electronic fusion, with need for some extra finesse. The lyrics are not particularly interesting, even for electronic music, without any particular theme or flow other than throwing out rhyming musical terminology with the beat. Musically, the breaks of classical music feel disjointed, as if pasted into a coarse electronic track for novelty and distraction.Fortunately, subsequent tracks mostly fix these problems, feeling truly *composed* with the band's unique skills, rather than pasted together. The uplifting lyrics flow well, and I consider the autotuned elements to fit nicely in the band's theme (especially well represented in the lilting female vocals in Dust Clears), although the guest artists are mostly superior. The strings are wonderfully evocative accompaniment to upbeat beats (also especially well represented in Dust Clears and Rather Be) with abundant interesting electronic flair mixed in. Several of the tracks also make excellent use of the steel drum or xylophone, for even more melodic-percussive flavor.Sample the best tracks (Extraordinary, Dust, Rather Be, A+E, Cologne, Heart on Fire) to feel the style, and these are easily worth the cost of the album, inspiring constant repeat!

One of the best albums of this century for sure

*by F***K on Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2017*

One of the best albums of this century for sure. I brought it especially for the remastered BBC Philharmonic Orchestra X Clean Bandit Symphony 12 songs that is my favourite live performance ever again. I listen to this album at least twice a week for more than 1 year now, and still could not express how clever this album is. Just as I discovered Rae Morris’s superior live vocal, this album brings me joy all the time and I believe any music listener should absolutely buy this special edition!!!

Great Album - "Stronger" version different on this album than the single version

*by D***S on Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2015*

Fantastic album (at least the version I got, which has a few different tracks)- top notch dance pop with great melodies and the classic sheen makes it more interesting than most dance music. One note- the version of "Stronger" on this album is not the same as the single version that is the "hit." The differences are sublte but pretty obvious one you listen to both back to back. the single version "pops" more.Still, totally worth picking up this album despite the absence of the top 40 version of Stronger.
