An excellent and cathartic horror story!
David Sodergren’s twist on sea monsters- I mean, sea creatures- is a clever and gruesome novel that is well worth the money and time. It is grounded solidly in the present day and will certainly strike a chord with anyone feeling frustrated at billionaires and the elite. The balance of horror with wit and humor truly makes this book a great read for horror enthusiasts.

Overall Good, but I do have one nitpick...
Overall a good story, but I do have some mixed feelings about it.On the negative side, many of the characters are about as fleshed out as your average B-Movie character. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I would have like some more depth added to the main villain and his important lackeys to fully paint a picture of how evil they actually are. Without that they are slightly cartoonish. On the positive side, Muriel is fully fleshed out as a character, and you can't help but feel for her. The monster in the story also had a surprising amount of depth to it, and I appreciate the author **not** pulling a reversal on us at the end of the book by making it secretly evil. All in all, it was a fun read, and I will probably check out the authors other works.

I really enjoyed this story
This was horror on more than one level. It had many sad truisms of society, but it wasn't preachy. It was gory, great characters and a fast read. I will definitely read more books by this author.

Quick Read for Body Horror Fans but Pretty One-Dimensional
I agree with another review on here where the reviewer wished this book was better in every way. The premise is great, the Scottish town and Muriel and her life are described with such detail and love. I can tell a lot of heart went into writing this but I do wish it was just...better.Characters are very black or white. They lack any sort of depth or nuance. We get insight into Muriel but every other character seems to just be a caricature. You have the "man who's always been in love with his best friend's girl", you have the "evil, greedy businessman", you have the "rich, entitled businessman's son who reeks of nepotism" . Almost every character falls neatly into a predictable archetype that you've seen dozens of times before. The book just seems very flat and elementary which leaves the reader longing for depth and color to this promising world the author has presented to us.All in all, great gore. Wish there was more of it. A solid read if you want to kill a book in a night and get transported to a seaside Scottish town but don't expect to get blown away by the read.

Sweet sad novel
Really enjoyed this folk horror story about aging, loss, change and corporate greed. This book almost broke my heart. The way we view 'old things' as in the way of progress rings true.4 stars because we aren't given closure on the fate of the town, Jack is killed in a care accident, Avalon probably knew what happened to her husband but doesn't tell her and Avalon didn't save her friend but made his death painless, then told her how painful his death was.Overall, it was a cute book.

Honestly?
THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE BOOK!I can't rave about it enough. I really can't. I can't place exactly what it is but the vivid descriptions of events and the way this story is painted in my mind will last a lifetime. I loved everything about this book! It creeped me out in all the right ways!

a bloody horrific comedic romance?!
I actually thoroughly enjoyed this read. Although certain parts were definitely graphic and absurd, the story itself was very good and flowed very well. It also was quite funny and the comedic parts of it didn’t feel forced. Definitely gory and horrific. Even nearly made me shed a tear.

good time all around
Surprisingly touching. Really enjoyed it. Fun and fast paced read. The beginning was a little slow, but at 20% it keeled into high gear and didn’t let up
