The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: A BabyLit® Camping Primer (BabyLit Primers)

Sturdy book; Charming Illustrations
FYI: The book I ordered in June 2014 has rounded edges and sturdy pages with no printing problems.Basically board books serve 3 purposes:1. To introduce children to "print concepts" (how books are held, books have pages, pages are turned, each page has something different on it)2. To build communication skills as caregivers read and talk about the book with baby3. To provide babies and toddlers with books they can manhandle safelyI thought this board book fit the bill.1. If you hold the book upright, you see Huck Finn and the other characters smile at you (except for the page where Jim's upside down.)2. There's plenty to talk about, but the book isn't too busy. "See the house....Where are the fish?...Do you like fish?....Where's the firefly?" There's a little bit of a story to talk about and characters that repeat across pages (Huck, Jim, a frog, a fish).Note: This is NOT the story of Huck Finn condensed down to toddler size--but a book that uses elements of the story to show vocabulary words: friends, clothes, river, dinner, birds.3. The pages are thick and sturdy. It could ride around in a diaper bag or get stepped on and not get crushed. The edges are rounded and safe. These are not meant to be stepping stones into an Ivy League school--but a fun gift for parents who like to read to their little ones. And the more fun the book is...the more families will share. BabyLit is a GREAT concept for a unique series of books.Love it. Keep them coming!

Fun to narrate in an imagined Mark Twain voice
I have to say, this is one of my favorite Babylit stories to read my toddler. For whatever reason, I go into a deep country accent when reading Mark Twain’s words and that just adds to the fun for my child and me. It is impossible for me to not read it this way and only adds to its charm. The illustrations are fantastic and the book quotes are chosen nicely. This book helps foster friendship, adventure and a love of the outdoors. I recommend this book!

yes, yes, yes
Baby lit books are our all time favorite books! They are small books, but that does not underestimate the goodness inside. We have ordered just about all of the baby lit books and love to swap them out during seasons and holidays. I also love that they have different primers and different types of learning for your little one. These books are great gift ideas, there are a lot of genres to choose from. The artwork and colors are bright and vivid, very pleasant to look at. The mommy and the teacher in me loves and approves these books!

Baby shower gift
I purchased this for a baby shower gift. It was one of those showers where everyone is suppose to bring a book to with a little note for the baby. With those types of showers I feel like everyone always chooses the same type of book, the classics. That's where you run into problems with duplicates. I choose this book because it has that feel of a classic but isn't quite as common as books like "I'll Love You Forever". The illustrations are adorable and it is an overall fun and unique book. I would purchase again.

Love it!
My son is only four months old so he isn't really into books yet, but I love this book! It's bright bold illustrations are very eye catching and I'm sure my son will love them. I love camping and reading and art so this book is a home run to me. It's neat that the words are quotes from huckleberry Finn instead of a baby version of the story. Bonus points, my 90 year old grandfather liked it too because he remembers reading Huck Finn as a kid.

Content is good but physical quality of the book is lacking
I am an English teacher, and I am a big fan of the idea behind these books. I love the illustrations and the way quotes are pulled from the actual text and applied to an idea young kids can understand (counting numbers, weather, and, in this case, camping). This book, as far as content, is no different from the others I have purchased for my children. The pictures are bright and pleasing to look at, and the text is fun to read. I would reference specific pages, but the book is currently in the room with my sleeping son. I like sitting with my kids and, after reading the simple text (a word and then corresponding line from the actual Huck Finn that supports that word), looking at what is happening in the picture. The concern I have is the quality of the physical book. Our previous books from this line (Pride and Prejudice, Alice in Wonderland, Wuthering Heights...) had nicely rounded, soft edges to the board book pages. This book and The Jungle Book (which I ordered at the same time) have sharp edges and both were a little warped when I got them in the mail. In fact I came close to getting a paper cut the last time I read this to my son. The weight of the books is different, as well. These feel lighter.I did get these two books cheaper than the others I have bought, so that might be why the quality is not as good. They also may have been part of a bad batch that was printed. I just wanted to make others aware that, although these are just as cute, they may not feel like other books you have ordered from the BabyLit Primer line.

Adorable Book, Great Concept! 👍🏾
My fourth grader is reading Huckleberry Finn, so I ordered this copy for my 1 year old daughter as well. These books are adorable! I love the concept, though I would prefer more diversity in the titles and authors. We enjoy reading together in the evenings!
